1. Use a cleanser suitable for your skin type.

"For oily or acne-prone skin, a salicylic gel or benzoyl peroxide wash works well," said Dr. Ava Shaman, a dermatologist in Santa Monica. "For dry mature skin, use a moisturizing glycol or milky cleanser. For brown spots or miasma skin, use a brightening wash such as Alpha Hydroxyl Acid Cleanser."

2. Do not use too many products.

Layering on several skin care products at once is not a big deal, says Dr. Julia Tau, a dermatologist in NYC. It is hard on the skin, resulting in more cracks and pores closing.

4. Do not touch your face.

Dr. Tau says it is important to know how to avoid touching your face. It can spread bacteria and cause breakouts — it can also lead to scars, increased wrinkles and the flu or other viruses.

5. Hydrate inside and out.

Every dermatologist we talked to stressed the importance of hydration. “Lack of water means less glare and more sagging,” says Dr. Mona Ghana, a Connecticut dermatologist. She suggests choosing products that contain hydrating formulas (cleansing, moisturizing and anti-aging). And, of course, drink eight glasses of water a day.

6. Avoid direct heat.

Don’t be wary of the sun - being too close to heaters and fireplaces can wreak havoc on your skin. "It causes inflammation and breakdown of collagen. I recommend staying at least ten feet away," explains Dr. Debbie Palmer, a New York dermatologist. So the next time you bake chestnuts or smokes on an open fire, take it step by step.

7. Exfoliate once or twice a week.

“We lose 50 million skin cells a day and without extra nudity, they keep the skin dry,” says Dr. Ghana. To combat this, you should choose a product that is pH neutral so that it does not dry out when exfoliated. And don’t just stop with your face — the skin on your body also needs exfoliation.

8. Vitamins should also go on your skin.

A balanced diet is important, but there is more than one way to give your skin vitamins. There are also topical antioxidants, such as serums and creams that contain skin nourishing ingredients (say vitamin C serums!).

“These actually help to repair the skin from the sun,” Dr. Palmer said. Not sure how to use them? The right time to apply them After cleansing, your skin can absorb them or lie down under your sunscreen for extra protection.

Although it's tempting to drink coffee while you've sleeping, Joanna Vargas, a skincare racialist in NYC, says choosing the right drink is a game changer. "Drink a shot of chlorophyll every morning to brighten, oxygenate and hydrate your skin. Drinking chlorophyll can help relieve inflammation by stimulating the lymphatic system, so it's good for you too.

And supplements can be found at many drug stores and health food stores. She also recommends drinking green juices that contain a lot of vegetables: "It will change your skin in a matter of days - and it's oxygenating the skin and stimulating lymphatic drainage, so it's also bloating."

10. Maintain a healthy diet.

“Your skin has a natural barrier to retain moisture 'and' it contains essential omega-3 fatty acids,” advises Joanna. "Flax seeds on your salad or walnuts boost your omega-3s instantly, thereby increasing your skin's ability to retain moisture." And be sure to eat a diet low in foods with a high glycemic index (simple and complex carbohydrates)...
