The state education minister also hinted that the state government is not in favor of opening all the schools at the same time. The government is mulling to open up schools in a staggering manner. "We want to minimize the spread of the virus among the students, we will take every possible step to ensure their safety and security. We are considering the opening of the schools in steps so that we can keep a check on the spread of the disease, he said.
The neighborhood classes will be held mainly with the pre-primary and primary school students so that they can get accustomed to a kind of class-like ambience. "As the schools were closed for more than two years and this will be an effort to sensitize the students so that they can accept the classes when the schools are opened," the school education minister said.
He also asked the municipalities, penchants, ward committees and education committees to come forward and help the teachers so that this unique government scheme can become successful
Speaking on the issue of opening schools, the education minister said: "The schools will be opened shortly, the chief minister will take the final call".
West Bengal education minister Brat ya Base on Monday said that while the state government was in favor of reopening schools in a phased manner to minimize the spread of Covid-19, but the final decision will be taken by Chief Minister Mama ta Banerjee “at the right time”.
Base was speaking to reporters while inaugurating the education department’s new initiative ‘Pray Himalaya’ (Neighborhood Classes).
Base added that the government was mulling the option of reopening schools in a phased manner. “We want to minimize the spread of the Covid-19 virus among students. We will also take all measures to ensure their safety and security. We are considering the option of reopening the schools in multiple steps so that we can keep a check on the spread of the disease,” Base said.
Meanwhile, the Kolkata police detained several SFI members after they demonstrated in favor of reopening of schools near Vikash Shawn.
Bengal’s Covid test positivity rate touched the lowest mark in two weeks on Monday, when it plunged to 8.84 per cent. On Sunday, it was 9.53 per cent.
Meanwhile, West Bengal registered a steep decline in its Covid-19 tally for the second consecutive day as 4,546 more people tested positive in the state – down from Saturday’s 6,980. The virus also claimed 37 more lives in Bengal in the past 24 hours, taking the state toll to 20,375.
Under the ‘Pray Himalaya’ initiative, classes will be conducted in the neighborhood to encourage students who have dropped out of schools to continue their education.
