Did you know the water composition in a human body is between 60 to 70 percent? Although the three-fourth part of this planet constitutes water, 97 percent of it is in the oceans and is not potable. Two percent of the remaining forms the glaciers and are not accessible daily. Only 1 percent is available for the use of humans. As per the history, civilizations flourished on the banks of the river.
S.T. Coleridge well-articulated the future scenario in his poem that was published in the 18th century. Unfortunately, only 1 percent of the entire volume of water is available to us. It is this tiny bit of water that we use to drink and do our regular activities. So, if you look at it, water is indeed a scarce resource that we randomly waste.
Today, groundwater is disappearing. The scarcity is starkly felt in the metropolitan cities, with the condition of Delhi being the worst where the groundwater level is estimated to reach ZERO by 2020. Kolkata, Mumbai, and Bangalore are standing on the verge of being bereft groundwater in the coming years as well.
With our actions, we have brought about climate changes and shifts in seasons. If we continue to waste water at this pace, soon we shall have none left to use. The way we are going with our actions, we will leave this earth a sad place to take birth in.
It is not unknown to us that many deserts were once vast oceans that dried due to various factors. If we do not conserve water or sleep over the changes that are direct results of our actions, the world is not far from turning into a giant mass of rock and sand!
Actions That Can Save Life from Going Extinct
Time to make posters and shout slogans is over. It is a time of crisis that calls for measures. If you are one with our thoughts and ideas, here are the things that you can do to save water:
Rainwater Harvesting
Nature has its filtration system, and the water that you get in the form of rain is pure. It is potable and entirely safe for drinking. Rather than letting the water go into the drains, collect it and use it.
Discard R.O Water Purifier
The R.O. Technology wastes more than half the water that goes into the system. It stands as a significant threat to the already diminishing potable water. Discard R.O filtration and adopt ordinary filters instead.
Change of Lifestyle
Many of us are guilty of leaving the taps open or wasting water in some or the other way. We have to step forward and stop this habit. Just because water is readily available to many of us, we do not hold the right to waste it at our discretion. For the sustenance of life on earth, every drop that you save matters! Let us do our bit every day to keep the precious resource – water. Remember, it’s God’s precious gift to us.
