Helambu is a region of highland villages in nepal. its about 80 km from kathmandu. it is the home of hyolmo people. the word helambu derives from the word hyolmo. the helambu region begins at the lauribina and decends to the melamchi valley. helambu is famous for its sweet apples. it is also famous for artistic buddhist monasteries and it is a buddhist piligrimage site. yearly thousands of tourists visit the helambu area. people in helambu are helpful, honest and loyal. it is a place where everyone must visit. helambu is also a best place for trek. although helambu is not as well known and popular as some other treks, the week long Helambu trek is easily accessable from kathmandu. the trek passes through shivapuri nagarjun national park so fees apply. there is another way where you will get bus to helambu. regarding trek it starts from sundarijal at the east end of the kathmandu valley, making a half loop through the middle hills of the helambu region to the northeast of kathmandu. there are not a lot of high mountains in the way but as you reach helambu there you can see a lot of high hills and high mountains. the region was hit hard by earthquake in the year 2015 but most of the lodges have been rebuild. from the high point at tharepati there is a big decent to an overnight at melamchi goan and then on to tarke ghyang. from tarke ghyang there is a tough but worthwhile detour to climb 3770m aama yangri peak for a faboulous mountain panorama streaching from langtang lirung to rolwaling. there are lots other places like sermathang, timbhu kieul and lot other places in helambu to visit. in upper areas there is a vilage of hyolmos and in midle there is tamang community and at bottom aryan community. there are three types of communities in helambu which is also a center of attraction.helambu
