The education ministry’s tableau at the 73rd Republic Day parade showcased India’s rich education history and various aspects surrounding the theme 'Vedas to Metaverse: National Education Policy 2020'. The tableau consists both of a metaverse display, alongside a display dedicated to the Vedas and meditation.
“From Vedas to metaverse, the Indian education system is bridging the past with the present and creating a new future embracing technology,” tweeted Dr Subhash Sarky, Union Minister of State for Education, Government of India. Front and rear portions of the education ministry tableau The tableau of the Ministry of Education and Skill Development depicted the earlier forms of education in India starting from the Vedas and the guru system of education and the ancient universities like Neyland where students came to study from across the world. The rear portion of the tableau showed the innovation aspects through a glowing bulb shaped like a brain. Students of different ages carried out a procession and models of children depicted skill development, scientific learning, the latest technologies like augmented and virtual reality, and joyful learning. The education ministry’s tableau showed the key aspects of the new National Education Policy (NEP), which came 34 years after the last change in 1986 and aims to transform the education system of India by 2040. On both sides of the tableau were images of India’s notable educationists and scientists from ancient to modern times. What is metaverse? The metaverse is a space in which the real world, the virtual world, the augmented reality and the internet come together. The metaverse consists of digital spaces made more lifelike through the use of AR and VR. The term may also describe gaming worlds where people misspelled form of ‘avatars’ can interact with others. Metaverse is used to describe a concept of what the internet may look like in the future. In December 2021, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg had said that India will play an important role in the development of the metaverse, which he called "the next version of the internet". Restrictions in the Republic Day paraded to the Covid-19 restrictions, only 12 states and Ups were allowed to display their tableaux at the Republic Day parade tomorrow. Students of different age groups, accompanying the tableau, portrayed skill development, joyful learning while emphasising the latest technologies like augmented reality and virtual reality. Video on the LED screens of the digital book placed atop the tableau illustrated multidisciplinary education, research and innovation, startups, robotics and metaverse.
