Depression symptoms and related mental health issues are more complex than we once thought. We are grateful to science and the holistic perspective for contributing to mental health awareness and enabling us to provide understanding and compassion to people who struggle with depression and mental health.

First of all, a mental health issue is a SYMPTOM. It manifests just like a cold, allergies, a headache, chronic headaches, chronic illnesses such as gastrointestinal issues, and diabetes or even cancer. They are symptoms of a systemic or a body-mind imbalance. Many doctors will tell you it is a "disease", or "dis-ease", the body is not at ease, with an aglomoration of symptoms. With any disease, no has the exact same list of symptoms.
Certain conditions need to be present in your body-mind for a "disease" to manifest. A cold may arise for various reasons such as our immune system is not strong. You may have recently gone through a stressful time weakening your defenses, and you may not have been sleeping due to stress and enjoying yourself by going out, therefore exposing yourself to more bugs, infections or viruses. Would you blame yourself for that? No, of course not. It is the same with depression symptoms. You cannot blame yourself. The information you are about to read will only give you tips for good mental health and more self-love and compassion.
Depression is not in the brain, you are not crazy, there is nothing wrong with you and it is not your fault. It is a holistic body-mind-spirit and generational issue that affects millions or billions of people worldwide. From the BodyTalk perspective and the holistic perspective, depression symptoms arise from an intertwined set of factors, like a perfect storm. It is a combination of the following:

Genetic and known or unknown generational trauma - if someone in your family has had depression, someone is likely to develop depression in future generations.

Habits and Nutrition: Not getting appropriate rest, exercise and nutrition can also

Trauma can bring on the onset of a depressive episode.

Your gut health. New research studies in the last 15 years show the gut is directly related to mental health, making nutrition even more important.
