After Prime Minister Narendra Modi's bilateral meeting with Nepal's Prime Minister her Bahadur Deuba in Lumbini, India signed six agreements with Nepal on various issues, including hydropower.
Earlier, during his visit to Delhi, Deuba spoke of improving relations between the two countries. And this time Prime Minister Narendra Modi went to Lumbini on the occasion of Buddhapurnima and sang the praises of India-Nepal friendship. Modi said, "
'India-Nepal relations are as intact as the Himalayas. Both countries will work to solve international problems with the Buddha's ideology. 'The agreement signed between the two countries today includes a hydropower project between India's Shatdru (Sutlej) Hydropower Corporation and the Nepal Electricity Board. The project is expected to generate 2,100 million units of energy annually. The estimated cost of the project is Rs 4,900 crore. In addition, an agreement has been signed between the Indian Council of Cultural Relations (IICR) and the Lumbini Buddhist University to set up a chair named after Ambedkar for Buddhist education.
The Prime Minister later said, “The construction of Lumbini Museum in Nepal is an example of joint cooperation between the two countries. And today we have decided to establish the Dr. Ambedkar Chair for Buddhist Studies at Lumbini Buddhist University. ” Incidentally, after the shift in Nepal, the country is leaning towards India again. India is also desperate to restore old ties with Nepal. In this atmosphere, Prime Minister Modi chose this occasion of Buddha Purnima.
Deuba came to India last month. There was talk of a joint venture of hydropower. Deuba met Modi in November last year in Glasgow, Scotland, at the UN Climate Summit. Today, Modi laid the foundation stone of the Buddhist Cultural Center in Lumbini. This will be done by the Ministry of Culture of Indian.
