Elon Musk’s electric vehicles are not for everyone though, and as one of its many products to be criticized the company has been looking at some changes it wants people to make around their cars. For example, now they’re getting rid of some features like lane-keeping, adaptive cruise control and automatic emergency braking.

However, while they have made big improvements over the years, they still have lots of problems with drivers — especially in traffic. Tesla makes this clear when you look at crashes they’ve reported over the past few months — with two being fatal cars hitting pedestrians and another one injuring a woman walking through Brooklyn Bridge Park.

The automaker told Autobahn that most of these collisions are caused by parking mistakes. They said an estimated 3,000 parking-related fatalities were recorded in 2021; and there were almost 60,000 incidents involving pedestrians.

The automaker also pointed out that the number of pedestrian road deaths fell from 35 per year in 2013 to 29 in 2017, which was a decrease of more than 25 percent. It said that most of those pedestrians involved in crashes were female, aged 45 and up.

They added that in order to help prevent such tragedies, this safety measure will be rolled out to owners over time, starting with the most prominent areas first.
