Pocket Dish is one of the latest entertainment innovations brought to market by EchoStar. The devices are designed to provide convenient access to videos, music, games and photos anytime, anywhere. With three separate versions of Pocket Dish, up to 40 hours of programming, 20,000 songs and 400,000 photos can be stored. Movies and shows can be downloaded from DISH Network digital video recorders or other devices and watched in the car, the waiting room or at a friend's house. Each device comes with a rechargeable battery that allows for 4 hours of monitoring before recharging. Music and photos are also easy to download, allowing you to access your favorite songs and good memories anywhere. When playing music alone, the battery lasts for approximately 12 hours before needing to be recharged. Another feature of Pocket Dish is its gaming capability. Puzzles, role-playing games and adventure games are available in one small package.
There are currently three versions of Pocket Dish on the market. AV402E is the basic version and offers many functions. It packs a 2.2-inch LCD in a device that measures 4.2 inches x 2.4 inches x 0.7 inches. The 20 GB hard drive provides storage capacity for 20 hours of video, 10,000 songs and 200,000 photos. This version does not include a built-in DVR, so video programming must be streamed from select DISH Network DVR players. However, audio and photos can be streamed from any compatible source.
The AV500E is an intermediate version of the Pocket Dish that offers more features than the AV402E. For roughly double the price, the 500 offers an additional 10 GB of hard drive space and DVR capabilities. This 30 GB device can store about 30 hours of video, 15,000 songs and 300,000 photos. It also has a larger 4-inch LCD and a slightly larger body size. However, the biggest difference is its ability to record programs from any TV, satellite box, cable box or VCR. Since it is a DVR, it can also be connected to a TV to play any recorded shows on a bigger screen.
The most advanced version is the AV700E. It has the same DVR capabilities as the 500, but includes a 40 GB hard drive, allowing storage of 40 hours of video, 20,000 songs and 400,000 photos. It also has a 7-inch display for easier viewing. Both the AV500E and AV700E models come with a remote control, docking station, removable battery and stand.
For all Pocket Dish models, programming can be downloaded for free from compatible DISH network DVRs or other devices. If the USB 2.0 port is used, an hour of programming can be downloaded in 5 minutes. Pocket Dish can also be connected to a receiver without a compatible USB connection, but the download time will increase by 1 hour for every hour of programming. All versions also allow for software upgrades via satellite or the DISH Network website. Additionally, Pocket Dish offers parental control locks that allow parents to limit their child's access to inappropriate programming.
Pocket Dish combines the capabilities of several audiovisual devices and offers a very versatile and portable technology. It offers many of the benefits of satellite TV in a portable format, plus the capacity to store and play music, photos and games.
