Best ATV Ways: One Man's Trash Is Another Man's Wealth

The next time you hear of a good ride, you may want to ask a few questions before you pack up to ride there. Although all ATVs are designed for entertainment, they are not designed for entertainment in the same place, and a good route for some people may be a complete boredom or a no-brainer for others.

Twenty years ago most ATVs were the same. Three wheels were more common than four, and they all had a sense of function. Today there are a wide variety of ATVs designed to meet the needs of almost any passenger. Many ATVs are very special and are made for mud, stones, work, or just speed. However, because ATVs are special, certain routes are more suitable for different types of ATVs. ATVs fall into two categories, sports and utilities, and each type of ATV works best in certain situations.

With rock climbing and other extreme terrain, a large four-wheel-drive quad is the best, but skid plates are highly recommended. Four wheel drive is important for rock climbing because it rarely removes the front or rear wheel from the ground to move from one rock to another. While it is possible to produce a two-wheeled sports bike over rough rocks, it is best to take a straight line between the rocks for the first time as most sports bikes have no backsliding. The suspension of sports bikes also makes it very difficult to cross large cliffs; this is because the suspension is too tight, and many of them do not have an independent suspension. At most utility quads, it seems that the tires come down to the ground holding the stones.

When it comes to mud pits, utility quads, especially those that pull on four-wheel drive home. The extra weight of these tires, as well as the variability of the lock, allows the tires to rotate anything other than the way it can hold on to it. Sports bikes can be very fun in the mud, but they are not the first choice for deep mud pits. Whenever you cross mud, speed is your friend, especially if you are riding a sports bike designed for speed and acceleration, not the low torque that needs to be pushed against a wall of mud and water. However, stopping any quad in the middle of a mud pit, four-wheel drive or not, could mean getting out with a pull rope or an inch.

Another unexpected route obstacle that can pose a problem is sand, especially the type of sand found near river beds. You can usually find a decent movement on the mounds, but unpacked sand is a problem for many quad, unless handled properly. In loose sand, a sports bike is more efficient than a quad of heavy equipment. The light weight of the sports bike allows it to continue moving on the sand, while many used bicycles are designed to dig deep into the ground to gain traction. No matter what kind of quad you have, speed is the best way to overcome the sand without getting caught.

The biggest problem when it comes to good rides is what makes that route so beautiful. Some people will say that many roads with a few hills and canals run very well; they just want to escape everything and enjoy the great outdoors for a few hours. Although there are many people who enjoy this type of ATV ride, it will not just cut you off if you are in a state of throwing mud, catching air, or crawling bluffs. Any type of ride you enjoy, you may be very disappointed if you introduce yourself somewhere and find that the place reflects the weakness of your quad instead of its strength.
