Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick has stated that the recent Grand Theft Auto 6 leak will have no bearing on the game's development at Rockstar Games.
More than an hour of GTA 6 development footage was leaked online in September by an anonymous user who claimed to have received it from an internal Rockstar Slack channel, in one of the games industry's most high-profile data dumps.
At the time, Rockstar stated that the incident will have no long-term impact on its development timelines.Take-Two, Rockstar's parent company, reinforced this message on its second quarter earnings call on Monday.
"With regard to the leak, it was really sad, and we take such situations extremely seriously," Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick stated (transcribed by VGC).
"There is no proof that any major assets were taken, which is a good thing, and the leak will have no impact on development or anything of the type, but it is incredibly disappointing and forces us to be even more attentive on cybersecurity problems."
The leaked clip showed open-world gameplay from a GTA 6 alpha build, which appears to validate prior reports that the game will take place in Vice City and feature a female protagonist.
A seventeen-year-oldreportedly arrested on suspicion of hacking During a September hearing at a specialist London youth court, Rockstar pleaded not guilty to charges of computer misuse. Prosecutor Valerie Benjamin said the suspect had used a phone to hack into companies and was "holding them to ransom" to gain access to illegally obtained software. The case was referred to a higher court, where it would be tried with a "similar" matter at a later date.
The adolescent, who is thought to be a member of the hacker group Lapsus$, was also detained earlier this year for allegedly hacking Microsoft and Nvidia.

The leaker, who was later identified as a 17-year-old in the United Kingdom, was caught and is currently facing charges. The leaks could have caused significant damage, but it appears that fans are still rallying behind Rockstar and hoping for a great launch.One of the major rising fears in the community about the future Grand Theft Auto game was that development could be hindered in large part due to the unfortunate disclosures. Fans should be relieved by Zelnick's views about its growth. The Grand Theft Auto franchise is currently the most valuable IP in entertainment, with GTA V, the most recent game in the series, selling over 170 million copies.
