- A positive body image is one we should all strive for. This is when you get to know yourself and who you are. You have a very true idea of your size, shape and weight. You see yourself as you are now. You accept yourself even though you may be overweight. You believe in yourself and love yourself, while still striving for something better. When you have a positive body image, you don't spend any time obsessing over food, weight, calories, exercise, etc. You are proud of who you are and comfortable in your own body.
Many people who suffer from binge-eating disorder do not have a positive body image. Instead, they have very distorted ideas about how they see themselves. Here are six ways to create a positive body image.
- Make a list of indviduals you admire.
Write why you admire each person. When writing down the qualities you like, pay attention to what you're writing.
For example, let's say you hold Oprah in high esteem. Your list might include her generosity to people, her willingness to support what she believes in, and her strong character that pursued success no matter what background she came from. You don't admire Oprah because of her looks; you admire her for the difference she made in the world. For her subscription to society. How she touched and changed so many lives.
- Think of times in your life when you felt great.
Go back to a time in your life when you were happy with your body. Maybe it was high school or college. Whatever it is, close your eyes and remember how you felt. Let these good feelings shine through you.
- Write down what you like about yourself now.
Take a piece of paper and write down everything you like about yourself: your legs, eyebrows, smile, hair, etc. The key to success is to focus on what you like instead of the many dislikes. Start respecting what you like about yourself. This will make you feel good overall.
- Pay attention to how you carry yourself when you walk.
Do you walk with your head down and look at the ground? Shrug your shoulders? Lift your spirits! Start walking around and making eye contact with people. Keep your head up. Walk with shoulders back.
- Start working out.
If you haven't exercised in a while, start slowly. Go for a walk outside on a pleasent day. If you are used to working out, keep doing it and vary your routine so that you don't get bored. When you exercise, you start to feel good about yourself, even if it only takes 15 minutes. Start slow and work your rise up.
- Hang out with positive people.
Look at the people who are closest to you. Are they positive or negative people? If they are negative, chances are that attitude will reflect on you and your attitude. Try to limit your time with any negativity because it will make you feel bad about yourself. You focus on the things you don't like about yourself.
Start feeling good about yourself and learn to accept yourself. You will gradually notice the changes that have occurred. Learn to be on your side rather than being against yourself. Put your shoulders back and come to end thinking about what you are not. Love the person you are and the person you are becoming.
