Rolls-Royce is already the pinnacle of automotive luxury, but the British manufacturer keeps finding ways to one-up itself. From etching a delicate depiction of cherry blossoms into the wood dashboard trim of the Spectre Inspired by Primavera, to layering swirling silver lacquer under clearcoat to create a trippy-looking hood on the Spectre Semaphore, Rolls-Royce knows how to turn cars into art. Its latest special creation, the Cullinan Cosmos, reinforces this expertise, sporting a hand-painted Starlight Headliner that looks like it belongs in a museum.
While many Rolls-Royces have featured the brand's Starlight Headliner—where hundreds of tiny LED lights are embedded in the roof to mimic glimmering constellations—the Cullinan Cosmos takes it a step further. Along with the light show, this special SUV features a painted depiction of the Milky Way, showing the band of stars and "cosmic mist" that can be seen in the night sky from Earth.
Rolls-Royce says it took its artist more than 160 hours to paint the Cullinan's headliner, and curiously, the artist used a makeup brush to create the hazy, elegant cloud-like effect, which spans the length of the ceiling. The blue and orange color scheme matches the rest of the cabin and gives the headliner an otherworldly look.
Aside from the pièce de résistance, the interior is decked out in a mix of Charles Blue and Grace White leather, with contrast stitching and piping in Grace White. The Piano White trim on the dashboard features a unique Star Cluster image, consisting of a series of stars and swooping lines in blue and orange, which also appears stitched into the door panels and headrests.
On the outside, the Cullinan Cosmos wears Arabescato Pearl paint, meant to emulate moonlight and accented by a hand-painted twin coachline in Charles Blue. The Spirit of Ecstasy hood ornament is illuminated.
The Cullinan Cosmos is a one-off, which Rolls-Royce says was "commissioned by a family who share a fascination for the universe with their four-year-old son." There's no word on how much this special Cullinan costs, but given that Rolls-Royce's SUV already starts at $407,750, we imagine the Cosmos easily crested the half-a-million-dollar mark.
