Kia launched its first dedicated electric car, the EV6 crossover, in 2022, following it up with the three-row EV9 SUV in 2024. Both models have been a relative success in the fledgling EV market, each moving over 20,000 units in 2024. Kia had plans to expand the lineup with lower-priced models the EV3 SUV and EV4 sedan—to draw in even more customers, but now it appears the latter might never actually reach dealerships stateside.
The EV4 has been delayed indefinitely, with a Kia spokesperson confirming the change in plans, stating that "as market conditions for EVs have changed, the release of the upcoming EV4 electric sedan will be delayed until further notice."
While the EV4 was initially revealed in February, the sedan received a U.S.-specific debut at the 2025 New York auto show, where Kia said sales would begin in the U.S. in the first quarter of 2026. Since then, however, the Trump administration has implemented lofty tariffs on imported vehicles and eliminated the federal EV tax credit, likely dimming the outlook for the EV4, which is being assembled in South Korea.
