Director Lokesh Kanagaraj has successfully ‘cast’ the character of ‘Vikram’ in a new domain to suit Kamal’s age and his mature appearance, as well as an extension of the already popular monologue, adopting the ‘branch story’ technique.
Kamal plays a former ‘Raw’ officer who blows his adult maturity into acting by playing the ‘monster’ mentality of overcoming his own loss and wiping out the spread of drugs.
Some police officers from the National Drug Enforcement Agency are killed in a row by a group of masked men. Unbeknownst to the public, Police Chief Jose (Vinod) entrusts the task of investigating and tracing the perpetrators of the killings to a team led by Agent Amar. What was the reason for the killing and what was the background? The story is whether or not the Amar team found out who acted as the masterminds of the murders.
The first half of the film is filled with scenes in which the Amar team searches for and interrogates the families of those killed and those associated with them. At the end of the trial, the priesthood could not be avoided because the known answer was who was going to be the main brain. But in the midst of the trial, the emotional pressure created by Amar's love and his marriage, and the debut fight scene of former ‘Raw’ officer Vikram (Kamal), make fans sit upright in anticipation of the second half. The rest of the film does fully meet that expectation.
For leading artists like Vijay Sethupathi and the ‘screen space’ that Kamal has given in the film is complete without blinking an eye. It was Kamal's vision that made it possible for Vijay Sethupathi to start his 'introduction' to the character and lose its uniqueness with 'Mass Appeal' as the first half of the film unfolds.
Intimidated by fazil's views, Vijay Sethupathi brings back the rigid body language of a fat mafia man who uses the drug Santhanam and re-imitates his 'Under Play' acting prototype. Gayatri Shankar and Agent Dina come to mind in some scenes.
In one of the scenes, Kamal talks about the social degeneration that can be caused by the spread of the drug mafia in the story field. That speech does not seem to have an impact. Similarly, the character written by Vijay Sethupathi, who is said to have demonic strength after being bitten by a drug, is like a drug advertisement.
The stress that Kalidas Jayaram's death must have created is the weakness of the screenplay to miss it and leave the secret of the relationship between Kamal and his son untouched by the audience.
The film unfolds as an action thriller that captures the grandeur of action scenes, including fights, chases, and blasting, the sequel's assassinations, and finally the introduction of the 'Rolex' character, and the film's logic that does not confuse the storytelling of the past. Fighting directors Anbariv, cinematographer Krish Gangadharan, Plomin Raj's editing and background music composer Anirudh Ravichandran are threatening to lend a hand.
In this film where there is no need for songs, we can say ‘Welcome’ to ‘Vikram’ for the action blocks that Kamal has given along with the creators of today, beyond the 2 songs that are interspersed!
