Bangladesh got off to a great start in the T20 World Cup by beating Sri Lanka. Nazmul Hossain Shantara is getting some relief in the thrilling match by winning by 2 wickets. There is one more reason that the Bangladesh team can be satisfied with this win, and that is the performance of leg spinner Rishad Hossain.
When was the last time Bangladesh saw a leg spinner's whirlwind win? In order to find that out, a lot of history must be dug up. Rishad Hossain has done that 'rare' thing. He did the work of 'breaking the waist' of the Lankan batting by taking 3 wickets at the cost of 22 runs after bowling 4 overs.
National team cricketer and former captain Tamim Iqbal praised Rishad who got the man of the match award on his World Cup debut, 'Rishad played a great match. In the 15th over, he bowled brilliantly and picked up two wickets. His over changed the course of the match.
Tamim Iqbal credited the selectors for giving Rishad Hossain a chance in the national team. However, Tamim gave credit to Minhajul Abedin Nannu's selection panel and not the current selection panel led by Gazi Ashraf Hossain Lipu. Tamim said, "The selectors who took him (Rishad) in the team, should be given credit. I am talking about the previous selection panel, not the current selectors.
This senior cricketer feels that Rishad needs a lot of support from inside and outside the team to maintain this trend of performance. Said, 'I expect more from Rishad. What happens in the subcontinent - everything is fine if you win! But when the performance is not good, they need more support.
Incidentally, Bangladesh's next match in the World Cup is against South Africa. Nazmul Hossain Shantar's team will take the field at the Nassau Cricket Ground in New York at 8:30 PM on June 10.
