Monkeypox is a rare disease caused by infection with the monkeypox virus. Monkeypox virus is part of the same family of viruses as var i OLA virus, the virus that causes smallpox. The symptoms of monkeypox are similar to those of smallpox, but are milder, and monkeypox is rarely fatal. Monkeypox is not related to chickenpox.

Monkeypox was discovered in 1958 when two outbreaks of a smallpox-like disease occurred in colonies of monkeys kept for research. Despite being called "monkeypox", the source of the disease remains unknown. However, African rodents and subhuman primates (such as monkeys) can carry the virus and infect humans.

Currently, the threat is so high that the World Health Organization (WHO) has issued a warning that "monkeypox remains a global health emergency, despite a 'promising' decline in cases."

In the latest study, experts have revealed that "significant" transmission of the monkeypox virus infection can occur long before symptoms appear. In the study, British researchers said that presymptomatic transmission of the monkeypox virus is a major threat to healthcare workers because most infections can become fatal long before symptoms appear.

Monkeypox is a viral infection that is endemic in several countries in West and Central Africa. The disease was only found in isolated areas of Africa until 2022, when the disease exploded and spread to other parts of the world. Currently, the threat is so high that the World Health Organization (WHO) has issued a warning that "monkeypox remains a global health emergency, despite a 'promising' decline in cases." As of October 31, a total of 77,092 cases of monkeypox infection were reported in 106 countries.

Transmission of monkeypox virus

Monkeypox virus was detected in the testes of surviving primates for up to 37 days after exposure. The ongoing monkeypox epidemic has spread to 109 countries and affected thousands of people. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), as many as 73,436 confirmed cases of monkeypox and 1,094 probable cases have been reported from these countries by October 17 this year. So far, the epidemic has claimed 29 deaths worldwide. As for the maximum cases, they are reported from countries where no transmission of monkeypox has been recorded. This left scientists confused as to how the virus was transmitted.

Based on current patient data, many health experts have suggested the possibility of s e x u al transmission of the virus. Adding to this theory is a team of scientists from the US who discovered the monkeypox virus in the testicles of macaques with the disease. In a new study, a research team from the US Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Diseases (USA MR I ID) revealed the presence of the monkeypox virus in the testes of macaques during the acute phase of the disease. The virus was detected in the interstitial cells, SE mini fer o us tubules and lumen of the epididymis, which are the sites of sperm production and maturation, the investigators said.

In addition, they found that while the virus was cleared from healed skin lesions and most organs during the convalescent phase (when the infection gradually subsides), it was detected in the testes of surviving primates for up to 37 days after exposure.
