 How to control Hair Loss?

What is Hair?

The simple structure that is made up of protein filaments called Keratin is known as Hair.

Hair acts as a barrier for foreign particles. Gender is identified by the appearance of hair length.

In general, human hair is divided into 2 parts, i.e., Hair root and Hair shaft.

Hair Root: The hair root is surrounded by a sac or tube like structure called a Hair Follicle. This hair follicle is surrounded by an inner and outer sheath that protects and molds the growing hair shaft. The bottom part of the hair follicle enlarges into an area of actively growing cells called the Hair Bulb. At the base of the hair follicle, a small, cone-shaped elevation is located which is called Dermal Papilla. Dermal Papilla is composed of connective tissue nerves and blood vessels, which nourishes the germinal matrix. Germinal matrix consists of cells called Melanocytes. Melanocytes produce the pigment called Melanin that gives hair its color.

Hair Shaft: The shaft of hair has 3 layers. They are Cuticle, Cortex and Medulla.

Cuticle: Cuticle is the outermost layer of hair. The cuticle protects the inner structure of hair.

Cortex: Cortex is the middle layer of the hair. 90% of the total hair weight comes from the cortex itself. The main protein content of cortex is Keratin. The elasticity and color of the hair is the result of this keratin.

Medulla: The innermost layer of the hair is called Medulla. Generally, only thick hair contains Medulla.

How Hair Grows?

At the bottom of each hair follicle, there is a bulb like structure called Hair Bulb, that contains active hair growing cells made up of protein called Keratin. Small blood vessels in the skin give the root nutrients to the hair growing cells for cell growth allowing the hair to grow, and as the hair begins to grow it pushes up from the root ant out of the follicle and eventually breaks through the surface of the skin, and finally you can see the hair.

Hair loss: Every day, 100 hairs are lost from one's scalp. That's normal, and in most people, those hairs grow back.

Causes of Hair Loss: Many men and some women lose their hair as they grow elder. One can lose hair if they have certain disease, such as thyroid problems, lupus or diabetes, sinusitis.
