A common misconception in today's society is that an obese child is a healthy child. Yes, we all love beautiful, affluent children, but the sad truth is that too many of those obese children will turn out to be unhealthy, obese adults. As parents, it is our job to make sure that we build a good foundation for our children by introducing them to a variety of foods, and not allowing them to indulge in a sweet sugary desert and empty calories.
With the growing popularity and convenience of fast food, about 1 in 5 children suffers from obesity. Obesity is now a worldwide phenomenon, regardless of race or gender. As obesity becomes a problem in the early years, there is a very high risk of developing adult disease and health problems early in life. Obesity quickly becomes a widespread health hazard in our human world.
With the advancement of modern technology, we have found ways to do things in a lazy way, eliminating many of the daily routines and continuing with our normal routine. Children now ride scooters or four-wheel drive rather than bicycles or roller skates. Now they prefer to spend their free time in front of a computer, television, or video game instead of playing tag and hiding outside. This decline in exercise is a common crime among today's children. We, the parents, need to be strong, and limit the amount of time we spend playing video games or watching television. At times, we may need to make adjustments in our lifestyle to move them to change. Get out and play with your kids, play soccer, ride a bike, etc. Doing things as a family often makes them more fun, so it will be easier to bring your children into them.
It seems that every day as parents, our lives get busier and faster, and we have less time to accomplish what we need to do. We tend to look for an easy way out, allowing ourselves to run home from work, rather than go home and cook dinner the way we should go. When we prepare our food, we know what the ingredients are, and we have the power to make healthy choices. Going with the fast food option is very easy, but it is usually very low on the nutrition side, and teaches your kids that it is okay to eat that unhealthy diet, often renting them out to improve their bad eating habits. If you have to go the fast food route from time to time, choose salads and grilled chicken, or try going with the healthiest choices on the menu, rather than the attractive burger and toast.
Children who spend a lot of time indoors in front of the television or video games also increase the risk of obesity by eating junk food. They eat ice cream, potato chips, cookies, etc., adding to their caloric intake, while reducing the amount of exercise they receive, and increasing their chances of becoming overweight.
Basically, childhood obesity is caused by a lack of exercise, poor diet, and, to put it bluntly, a lack of parental control over their children's lives.
Obese children are at greater risk of all kinds of health conditions. Common problems include early diabetes, joint problems caused by obesity, heart disease, and mental and social problems caused by obesity. Schoolchildren often think that it is fun to argue, and this joke can trigger a world of obsessive-compulsive disorder that often progresses in adulthood. Then, the health risks increase because most obese children will eventually become obese adults, with a variety of other health problems they have to deal with.
