Mimi Chakraborty was born on 11 February 1989. She is an Indian actress, singer and politician. She is known for her work in Bengali cinema and television. She hails from a city in the Indian state of West Bengal. She spent her childhood in Arunachal Pradesh, a town in Ti rap district, but later moved back to her ancestral home with her family. She was educated in Holy Child School, and later at St. James' School, Binnaguri. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 2011 from Ashutosh College in Kolkata. Her parents live in Siliguri.

Mimi Chakraborty was a model briefly before starting her acting career. She participated in Famine Miss India. Her acting debut was with Champion. She was listed as the most desirable woman in the Calcutta Times list of Most Desirable Women 2016. 

 

Her second project was a TV serial produced by Ideas Creations. It aired on Star Jalsha from 28 June 2010 to 16 April 2011. Ideas Creations, the production house of Prosenjit Chatterjee, launched the mega-serial to pay tribute to Rabindranath Tagore on the 150th anniversary of his birth. The likes of Rituparno Gosh (who was initial scriptwriter), Debojyoti Mishra (music director), and other noted personalities from the film industry were involved with the project. In 2019, she joined politics and in Indian general election as a Congress candidate and moreover She is a Member of Parliament.

Chakraborty has been a part of Fame Fashion and Creative Excellence (FFA CE) in different ways. In 2014, she unveiled the Edition 1 of the FFA CE Calendar at Tantra, Park Hotel, Kolkata. The same year she was a part of the conceptual greeting card produced by FFA CE as the FFA CE  promoting women empowerment.

Mimi joined All India Congress party in 2019. She contested in the 2019 Elections from West Bengal. She won the elections by 2,95,239 votes against BJP.

 

•Controversies

 

•Mimi Chakraborty faced massive criticism after one of her pictures went viral on social media. The picture showed her wearing gloves while shaking hands with commoners during one of her election campaigns. BJP alleged that it was an insult to the voters. After which, Mimi’s team on her support claimed that she had suffered from burns and nail scratches during her previous election campaigns, which were the reasons why she had to wear gloves.

 

•After her name was announced as a candidate for 2019 Elections, she faced a lot of criticism. She found herself in a controversy when she posted a photo of her wearing ‘hijab’ and wished a happy Ramadan on social media. She was slammed for hurting religious sentiments of people for wearing ‘hijab’ and got tagged for her actions as a ‘cheap publicity stunt’ to gain votes.

 

•Mimi Chakraborty, after her win in the 2019 Elections, posted her pictures on social media with the Parliament in her background. She was highly trolled for wearing Westernized clothes in the parliament; with people telling her that it was not the place of her shooting and she should start getting serious.

 

•In 2018, she was trolled for wearing a tee-shirt and shorts during the festival of Ganesh Chaturthi, with her haters telling that she had hurt the religious sentiments of the people, and her dressing was inappropriate for the festival.
