Most people want to get the latest information on any topic they’re interested in, which also applies to the war between Russia and Ukraine that has been going on since 2014 and shows no signs of letting up anytime soon. As an impartial journalist and analyst, I try to keep you updated with the latest facts and figures as well as my own analysis of events happening in this crisis-stricken region at the center of the ongoing geopolitical conflict between the U.S., Europe, and Russia. Here are five updates on the Russian-Ukrainian War that you need to know about
HotSpots
As of May 2014, Ukraine's easternmost regions have become active hot spots. Pro-Russian groups who recently seized control over administrative buildings in Donetsk, Luhansk, Kharkiv and other cities are calling for referendums that would allow voters to decide whether they want greater autonomy from Kiev or outright independence. The latest news is that these pro-Russian activists were armed by Russian military forces. Although Moscow claims it only provides humanitarian aid to eastern Ukraine, analysts say thousands of soldiers, tanks and other military vehicles are flooding into Crimea across a stretch of water controlled by Russia. Foreigners will be shocked to find out how quickly these tensions erupted into war-like conditions; it all started just last month when pro-European protesters toppled Ukraine's government in Kiev during violent demonstrations on Feb.
Latest Developments Late last week, US Secretary of State John Kerry had an hour long meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Following their talks, both sides released statements about steps they are taking to lower tensions in Ukraine. This is welcome news as it suggests that there could be a peaceful way out of what has quickly become one of Europe’s worst crises since World War II. However, it’s still unclear exactly how each side will proceed if these measures don’t produce results over time. If we have to eventually head to war in order to stop further Russian aggression, we must remember that our armed forces are more than capable of securing Ukrainian sovereignty; however, any strike against Crimea or eastern
Ukraine would probably cause additional complications which wouldn’t be worth it unless absolutely necessary.
What Next? Many events have taken place recently in Ukraine, so what’s next? One of the reasons I decided to write a post that reflects more impartial analysis is because there are many news articles out there which are extremely biased; therefore, I thought it would be wise to help people understand some facts. I can’t really tell you what will happen next as nobody knows for sure (except Vladimir Putin of course), but it is important to take an unbiased look at all sides. We need to stay impartial in order to understand these kinds of situations better. While reading my post, you should keep in mind that if we judge a person from a specific point of view, then all we see is their faults and not their good points either. Everyone has them! As Albert Einstein once said: Nothing is harder than having sight without vision. It is also very important to use multiple sources while writing your analysis paper or doing any research on a particular topic; in fact, that is one of the first things they teach you at college level when you start studying history or political science!
