India - U.S. Trade Relations

 

  • Trade Deal Progress : India and the United States have finalized the turms of reference for discussions on the initial phase of a bilateral trade agreement . Indian trade officials are optimistic about achieving a mutually beneficial deals within the next 90 days .

 

  • Tariff Suspension : The U.S. has suspended the additional 26% tariffs on Indian goods for 90 days , providing a window for diplomatic negotiations .

  • RBI Rate Cut : On April 9 the Riserve Bank of India (RBI) reduced it's key repo rate by 25 basis points to 6.00% , marketing the second consecutive cut . The central bank also shifted it's monetary policy stance from "neutral" to "accommodative ," signalling potential for further rate reductions .

India - UK FTA Talks : Finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman , during her visit to London , emphasized India's push to secure a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with the UK . Discussions focus on reducing tariffs on UK exports like cars and whisky , enhancing market access for British professional services, and improving visa processing for Indian workers .

 

Government Initiatives And Regional Developments :

 

  • Global Tariffs and Trade Helpdesk : The Indian government has launched the 'Global Tariffs and Trade Helpdesk'  to assist stakeholders in navigating complex trade regulations and tariffs , aiming to bolster India's export competitiveness .

 

  • Odisha's Unified Health insurance Scheme : The state of Odisha has introduce a comprehensive health insurance scheme by merging the central Ayushman Bharat Pradhanmantri Jan Arogya Yojna with the state - specific Gopabandhu Jan Arogya Yojna . This initiative aims to enhance healthcare access to it's citizens .
