Interest in skin care products, or beauty products, has been strong in Asia, and the trend is growing rapidly in Europe as well. These rich, nutritious foods create an ideal environment for developing an inner beauty, designed to prevent or reduce the effects of aging, such as degenerative skin.
Other products on the market include a supplement containing lacto-lycopene, vitamin C, and soy isoflavones. This is aimed at restoring skin firmness in women over the age of 40, and was developed by Nestle and L'Oreal. Some are made using lycopene and grape seed, both antioxidants. The grape seed extract also stops the enzymatic reaction that causes the collagen in the skin to break down.
Antioxidants protect the capillaries in the skin and thus ensure that enough nutrients reach the living cells that end up pushing up and becoming the skin you see on the screen. They also protect against broken arteries and premature wrinkles. Capillaries also bring oxygen to the cells, and remove impurities from cellular metabolism. This prevents swelling, deterioration, and dull skin.
But you do not always have to reach for an extra bottle. By simply eating foods rich in antioxidant daily you should see some improvement in skin tone. Fruits rich in antioxidants include blueberries, prunes, black berries, raspberries, strawberries, apples, cherries and plums. And for vegetables, eat plenty of artichokes, broccoli, red cabbage, red potatoes, brown onions, asparagus, raw capsisum, beetroot, spinach and sweet potatoes.
Women are more prone to damage caused by antioxidants than men, according to a study from the University of Berkeley, and as a result of their aging effects (Angyal).
Another powerful antioxidant is beta carotene. Beta carotene is found in green leafy vegetables, fruits, and carrots. This antioxidant has been shown to counteract the effects of a type of oxygen free radical, singlet oxygen, which occurs after the skin is exposed to UV rays in sunlight. UV exposure can lead to premature aging with the effects of singlett oxygen. Studies have shown that although the provitamin A carotenoid component is not fight with a single oxygen, beta carotene did. It inhibits the activity of two enzymes, which are associated with UV light and the destruction of the matrix outside the skin cell, which occurs in premature aging of the skin. Sunlight also destroys beta carotene in cells after exposure to the sun, so this beta carotene must be replaced.
Beta carotene has been reported to have little sun protection effect, although it needs to be taken as a supplement to get this effect.
The market for beauty skin supplement supplements is still not the most developed, as these types of supplements are often more expensive than other supplements. And there is a need for more research and clinical trials to determine which products are effective
