Overview
Quince is an Ancient fruit, mostly found in a Roman cooking. Quince grows on the small trees and it is closely related to apples and pears. It is one of the nutritious fruit. When Quince in raw form it tastes slightly sour and inedible. But when we cook it tastes good that’s why it is perfect ingredient for cooking. Quince appears in a pear shaped and bright golden-yellow color. Its botanical name is Cydonia Oblonga.
Quince is a seasonal fruit available in the January, and in some areas they still purchased through February and March. Using quince we can make the best fruit sauce which is similar to the apple sauce.
Quince is used to prepare the various dishes. Cotignac is a gel which is prepared by boiling quince juice and sugar, and it is set into the small wooden boxes to form confections. It is normally presented to the French royalty in honor of their visit to the cities and outlying villages. This gel is still available in some areas of the France, in Spain and Middle East it is known by the other names.
We can make kindling wood using the branches of quince tree because they are very hard. In ancient times, quince fruits are used to perfume the room because they are so fragrant at the room temperature. Like, we use the room fresheners today to fragrant the room.
Origin
It is believed that the quince originated in Caucasus. The Caucasus region is located at the border of Europe and Asia, which is situated between the Black and Caspian Seas.
