1) Covid-19: Supreme Court rejects Maharashtra state petition against order quashing directive capping treatment cost of Non-Covid patient.
A bench of Justices headed by D.Y. Chandrachud said it isn't aiming to interfere with the state supreme judicial writ. As a result, the government cannot issue such notifications.
The Bench said it could not issue such notifications when the state government itself does not have the necessary infrastructure to treat Non-Covid patients at government hospitals.
The court had further said that the Epidemic diseases act, Disaster management act, and Covid regulations do not empower the state government to issue directions about Non-Covid patients being treated in private hospitals and nursing homes.
2) Rajya Sabha adjourned two times.
Rajya Sabha proceedings on the first day of the monsoon session of Parliament were adjourned two times. Firstly it was adjourned for an hour as a mark of respect for the departed pair of sitting MPs, Raghunath Mohapatra and Rajiv satnav. It was again adjourned till 2 p.m. due to protest by the opposition.
Rajya Sabha chairman M. Venkaiah Naidu mentioned the passing away of the two sitting MPs and 10 former members, including Bollywood veteran Actor Dilip Kumar and legendary Indian Runner Milkha Singh.

3) HDFC Bank shares Tumble over 3% after Q1 earnings.
The shares of HDFC Bank dipped over 3% on July 19 as the company's June quarter earnings failed to enthuse investors. The stock went lower by 3% to Rs1,475 on the BSE.
HDFC Bank's consolidated net profit for the June quarter increased 14 % to Rs 7,922 crore. Still, the largest private sector lender reported reverses because of the second wave of the pandemic, which compressed its growth.
It can be noted that the year-ago quarter had a deep impact on the national lockdown and the ensuring impact on economic activity. In contrast, the reporting quarter had an impact due to localized lockdowns.
4) Shikhar Dhawan, debutant Ishan Kishan shine in India's victory over Sri Lanka.

5) Tamil Nadu to develop a standard operating procedure for the capture and release of wild elephants.
The Tamil Nadu forests department will shortly develop a standard operating procedure for capturing and releasing wild elephants based on science and best practices, said Shekhar Kumar Neeraj, Pccf, and Chief Wildlife Warden.
The Asian elephant species in Tamil Nadu has shown signs of population decline to an alarming level in the decades. Compared to the cost of capturing, training, and maintaining this elephant in captivity, managing it in the wild will be far less expensive and conservation and Ecology friendly, he said.
