Top first three steps to permanent weight loss
There is no other thing on the planet more confusing than weight loss. There are thousands and thousands of books written on the topic, each one disagreeing with the next. But, there is a secret to permanent weight loss and it's simple.
The real secret to permanent weight loss…
The ability to maintain a daily practice of healthy, moderate eating and exercise habits is enough to achieve the results you desire, and then continue with these habits to maintain your results for lifelong success!
There it is. I know, it's simple but it's not! We live in a fast-food, everything-must-be-easy, bigger-is-better society. Gluttony and instant gratification are the norm.
I believe three barriers block our ability to practice the healthy, moderate eating and exercise habits necessary to achieve the results we desire, and they are:
1) Deriving most of life's pleasure from the food we eat
2) Chronic lack of self-discipline in the areas of health and fitness
3) Chronic lack of self-motivation in the areas of health and fitness
Let's take a closer look at each of these.
Obstacles are one
As most people are very busy every day, the food they eat is what makes them most happy. This is the real danger that prevents permanent weight loss. If you're burning the candle at both ends, rushing from one commitment to the next all day, when you sit down to eat, you want it to be extra good because you deserve it.
Solution one
Find ways to get more enjoyment out of a day. Spend ten minutes a day quietly reading your favorite book or magazine, spend a few minutes on the phone with a friend, or start a fun new hobby. It doesn't take long; Find other ways to load up on pleasure so you don't have to load up on food.
Barrier two
Most people don't have the chip in their brains that allows for happy self-discipline in the fields of health and fitness. Most of us are disciplined enough to get to work on time, meet deadlines, and follow traffic rules, but not restrict our diet or exercise regularly. Some people reason that they don't want to be when it comes to diet and exercise because they have to be more disciplined in other ways.
Solution two
To build long-term self-discipline, focus not on the challenge of the journey, but on the joy of the reward at the end of the road. So list the top ten rewards you get when you lose weight. You need to ask yourself what it is costing you to be overweight. Does it rob you of your self-esteem? Your joy and vitality in life? Has it cost you a relationship or a job? Remembering rewards and costs makes self-discipline much easier.
Barrier three
It's easy to get motivated on January 1st, but what happens to that motivation on March 1st? Or passing through a brownie for the first time? Believe it or not, most people are not masters of their motivation. Because they love it, they think that's motivation enough, and it's not.
Solution three
You need to rediscover your motivation every day. To do this, write down the top ten reasons you want to lose weight and avoid it. Also, make a list of people who motivate you to lose weight. Review these lists in the morning and evening along with the lists you created above. Your motivation is always evolving, so what motivated you last week may not motivate you next week. So revise your list regularly.
As you overcome these obstacles, you'll lose weight because, over time, you'll find other ways to find joy in your life, you'll practice positive self-discipline, you'll learn to eat less food and like it, and you'll rediscover motivation every day. All must continue.
