Planning and interior design for the Burj Khalifa's more than 3 million square feet of interior space started from the very beginning of the building's structural and architectural construction. The technical achievement of the building as well as the local culture and history served as inspiration for the SOM interiors team as they designed the lobbies, guest amenities, lounges, offices, board room floor, and chairman's suite. The interiors of the uppermost floors are influenced by the stars and were motivated by the idea of a spacecraft that was not moving.
The lower levels, on the other hand, are reminiscent of the land's natural features. The interiors express shelter with silver travertine flooring, Venetian plaster walls, handmade rugs, stone flooring, and dark, ornate Brazilian Santos rosewood in addition to glass, stainless steel, and polished dark stones.
Over 900 living apartments and a maximum capacity of 10,000 people can be found inside the Burj Khalifa at any given moment.
In addition to housing private citizens, it is home to offices, Armani hotels, fancy dining establishments, real estate companies, and construction companies. It draws throngs of tourists due to its proximity to The Dubai Mall; in 2019, around seven million people visited it.
The Burj Khalifa is a truly remarkable structure because of its hybrid design. Being a multipurpose building, it highlights Dubai's leadership in business, tourism, and construction while capturing the diversity of contemporary Dubai.

Apart from being the highest building in the world, Burj Khalifa has shattered two other noteworthy records: tallest structure (formerly held by the KVLY-TV mast in Blanchard, North Dakota) and tallest free-standing structure (formerly held by the CN Tower in Toronto). Three standards have been set by the Chicago-based Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH) to define what constitutes a tall building. In all three categories, the Burj Khalifa emerges victorious.
