Oppenheimer, Christopher Nolan's next epic, features an impressive cast. Oppenheimer, which will be released in July 2023, is Nolan's first biopic and focuses on J. Robert Oppenheimer, a man who changed the world. Based on Kai Bird and Martin J. Sherwin's biography American Prometheus, Nolan's Oppenheimer will most likely take place between 1942 and 1946 and will detail Oppenheimer's role in the infamous Manhattan Project, which included the development of the first nuclear weapons.
Oppenheimer's cast includes many familiar actors from Christopher Nolan's previous film projects, as is customary. Cillian Murphy, who also appeared in Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight trilogy, Inception, and Dunkirk, will play Oppenheimer at the height of his power. Oppenheimer, on the other hand, features a slew of talented actors with whom Nolan has yet to collaborate.

Murphy is a Nolan veteran, so his inclusion in this cast is not surprising. Murphy, on the other hand, will be playing the lead in one of Nolan's films for the first time. He has compared Robert Oppenheimer to his Peaky Blinders character, Tommy Shelby, because both men are "contradictory characters."
Emily Bunt in the role of Katherine 'Kitty' Oppenheimer
Emily Blunt is a newcomer to Nolan's cast, but she is a welcome one. Katherine Oppenheimer, played by Blunt, will be Robert Oppenheimer's wife. Blunt's previous filmography includes roles in films such as A Quiet Place Part II, Edge of Tomorrow, and Sicario.
Leslie Groves is played by Matt Damon.
Leslie Groves, an Army Corps of Engineers supervisor, will be played by Matt Damon. Groves was in charge of the Pentagon's construction and was named director of the Manhattan Project in September 1942. Damon and Nolan previously collaborated on the film Interstellar.
Lewis Strauss is played by Robert Downey .Jr
Another newcomer to Nolan's projects is Robert Downey Jr. After starring in one of the world's most popular franchises as Marvel's Iron Man, it'll be interesting to see what projects he chooses to work on next, and Oppenheimer is certainly a compelling one. Downey Jr. will play Lewis Strauss, a naval officer who served on the US Atomic Energy Commission for two terms.
Florence Pugh in the role of Jean Tatlock
In Oppenheimer, Florence Pugh will play Jean Tatlock. Tatlock was a Communist Party member, a psychiatrist, and had a romantic relationship with Robert Oppenheimer. Pugh will also be working with Nolan for the first time, but after the success of her roles in Midsommar, Little Women, and The Wonder, there's little doubt that she'll shine in Christopher Nolan's Oppenheimer as well.
Edward Teller is played by Benny Safdie.
As Edward Teller, Benny Safdie joins the cast of Oppenheimer. Teller was a theoretical physicist who worked on the Manhattan Project with Robert Oppenheimer. Because of his work on the world's first thermonuclear weapon, he was also known as "the father of the hydrogen bomb." Benny Safdie's most recent films include Obi-Wan Kenobi and Licorice Pizza.
Ernest Lawrence is played by Josh Hartnett.
Ernest Lawrence, an American nuclear physicist who won the Nobel Prize in 1939 for inventing the cyclotron, will be played by Josh Hartnett. Interestingly, Hartnett was offered the role of Batman/Bruce Wayne in Christopher Nolan's Batman Begins but turned it down due to scheduling conflicts. Hartnett has previously expressed his disappointment at not having been able to work with Nolan, so his role in Oppenheimer represents a second chance.
Vannevar Bush is played by Matthew Modine.
Matthew Modine is best known for his role in Stranger Things as Dr. Martin Brenner. He has also previously collaborated with Nolan on The Dark Knight Rises, in which he played GCPD Deputy Commissioner Peter Foley. Vannevar Bush, an electrical engineer and inventor who oversaw the Office of Scientific Research and Development, will be played by Modine.
