Obesity is now considered an epidemic in the health community. In fact, smoking is the leading cause of preventable death in the United States. Obesity can lead to type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease or stroke, and even cancer. This is one of the best things you can do to reduce stress in terms of your health and quality of life.
Despite what we want to believe that, there is no magic solution for depression. When the body needs more calories than it eats, it stores excess fat. It's very easy. So if you want to lose weight, you need to reduce your calorie intake and increase the amount you burn.
When looking for an unlocking program, you have several options to choose from. Everyone is often told what to eat, how much and when, or in what combination. However, some people say that exercise is not only important for weight loss, but also for your overall health and well-being. Exercise is important when you want to lose weight for several reasons:
When you start eating less, your metabolism slows down a bit. Exercise helps keep your metabolism at an efficient level. Second, as mentioned above, exercise burns more calories, so you can burn more calories and be more motivated for your efforts. Third, exercise releases endorphins, chemicals that keep you in a good mood.
Exercise doesn't mean hours in the gym or weight training. In fact, exercise should be something you want to continue. Start increasing your overall activity level. Climb the stairs as much as possible. Stay away from mall entrances when shopping. Take a walk in your favorite park or neighborhood and take your dog or friend with you. Take dance classes or martial arts lessons.
Once you are more active in general, regular exercise will become easier and more natural. Get consistent, tangible health benefits. Get your heart rate up to fat-burning levels and maintain it for at least 20 minutes, three times a week or more. However, if you can't or don't want to go to the gym, there are other options. Video's & DVDs are now available for all types of exercise. That way, you can change your routine whenever you want, so you won't get bored of what you're doing. Try aerobics, kickboxing, yoga, or any other activity you enjoy in the comfort of your own home.
If you have physical limitations that prevent you from participating in sports, you may want to look for ways to increase your activity. Water aerobics is a great option for people with joint problems or limited mobility because it takes the pressure off your body from your weight. But you still have to overcome the resistance to pump your muscles. There are even tutorials and videos to accompany the lessons.
Whatever form of exercise you choose, it's important to be motivated and have fun. Try getting a group together for a social event. Or get a pedometer that tracks how many steps you take and how many miles you walk in a week. Compete with friends or family and reward the winner with something special (not just food!). Make exercise something you look forward to, and it will become a regular part of your healthy lifestyle.
