Top Cold Sore Remedy - Mint Tea

A remedy for cold sores that has proven to be very effective is peppermint tea, as well as pleasant to use. Many times I have seen a cold sore completely heal in just 7 days using the peppermint tea cold sore remedy described in this article.

As with every cold sore remedy I write about, I am offering this cold sore remedy to you for informational purposes only. It is a cold sore remedy that has worked for many others.

This cold sore remedy is in no way presented as medical advice. There is no substitute for a one-on-one relationship with a healthcare professional.

Also keep in mind - the best medicine for cold sores is the one that is applied topically. Cold sores are primarily an external problem and can be easily treated this way. You may hear about various vitamins or prescription medications that are helpful as an internal remedy for cold sores. These sometimes help. But a simple and direct approach will always give you the best results.

This is true with cold sores or any other problem in life.

Mint is a very effective cold sore remedy, as it has strong antiviral properties. Mint also has a very calming effect, which makes it a favorite of many people who have written to me.

But first, let's look at the "one-size-fits-all" cure for cold sores - ice.

Ice has been used as a cold sore remedy for centuries. Today, ice is easily available anywhere, anytime. Even a cold can of soda works as a cold sore remedy when held.

The replication process of the herpes virus creates cold sores. Ice, when applied to a developing cold sore, discourages the herpes virus from replicating. The herpes virus hates colds. Using ice or any cold object will prevent the herpes virus from creating that nasty sore. And sometimes even send the herpes virus back into hibernation.

As a cure for cold sores, the combination of the ice method with mint is many times more effective.

Mint is very easy to find. The form we use is mint tea bags. These are available wherever you find herbal teas. If mint is combined with other herbs, this will also work. Just make sure the mint is primary. Mint is also easy to grow in a window pot if you want to try it fresh. In a moment, I will talk about a special remedy for cold sores using fresh mint.

This will turn mint tea into a very effective remedy for cold sores.

We take 20 oz. bottled water and 5 tea bags (about one tea bag per 4 ounces of water), brew a strong shot of peppermint tea. Then freeze the wet tea bags.

Using frozen tea bags instead of ice, hold the tea bag on the cold sore for about 10 minutes. About 3x an hour works fine.

Get the soothing and healing effects of ice with this frozen mint cold sore remedy. Additionally, as the bag melts, you apply a very strong antiviral drug. This will kill thousands of herpes viruses.

Additionally, you can supplement this cold sore remedy by drinking tea. Also apply the mint tea liquid to the sore using a cotton ball or paper towel. You now have both an internal and an external cold sore remedy.

This is also the perfect cold sore remedy for those rare people who get a cold sore in their mouth. It also works well on ulcers. As a remedy for cold sores or canker sores, you can use the tea as a mouthwash. Swish it around for a minute and then swallow it for internal benefits.

A variation of this cold sore remedy that we have used with success is to freeze the tea liquid. This works best for us when using an ice cube tray that creates smaller ice cubes. This is a little messy because the cube melts. If you use fresh grown or loose mint, you won't have tea bags to freeze. In that case, this may be one way to use mint as a cold sore remedy.

A final note on the use of mint as a cold sore remedy.

You may not want or be able to sit and hold an iced or frozen tea bag to your lip with this cold sore remedy. If you are on the go, here is a very convenient and effective way to use mint as a cold sore remedy.

You can quickly make an excellent remedy for cold sores by crushing fresh mint leaves into a paste. If you don't want to grow your own, mint is often available fresh or dried at your local health food store. Add a little water with the dried mint to reconstitute it, and it will also form a fine paste. Mix in some baking soda when making the paste. This raises the pH level, which the herpes virus also hates.

You now have a cold sore remedy that you can use while traveling or at work. And if it's made with fresh mint, the mint will be even stronger than in dried tea form because you're not heating it.

I hope you, like many others, find this to be an excellent, inexpensive and effective cold sore remedy.
