CBSE new syllabus: One of the most notable changes applies to Class 10 students, who will now have the opportunity to take two board exams per year, scheduled for February and April, starting from the 2025-26 academic session.
The Central Board of Secondary Education has announced major revisions to the Class 10 and Class 12 syllabus for the academic year 2025-26, introducing significant changes to the board examination system, grading criteria, and subject options.
One of the most notable changes applies to Class 10 students, who will now have the opportunity to take two board exams per year, scheduled for February and April, starting from the 2025-26 academic session.
However, Class 12 board exams will continue to be held once a year, with the 2026 exams set to commence on February 17. The board anticipates that approximately 20 lakh students will appear for the Class 12 exams.
Revised result calculation and grading system for Class 10
CBSE has introduced a 9 point grading system for Class 10 board exams, where marks will be converted into grades. Each subject will carry 80 marks in the board exam, with an additional 20 marks allocated for internal assessments.
To pass, students must secure at least 33% in each subject. Additionally, they will be required to select one of three skill based subjects:
- Computer Application (Code 165)
- Information Technology (Code 402)
- Artificial Intelligence (Code 417)
Students must also opt for either English or Hindi as one of their language subjects in Class 9 or 10.
Further, the board has outlined a provision for students who fail in core subjects such as Science, Mathematics, Social Science, or a language paper. If they pass a skill subject or an optional language subject, the failed core subject will be replaced by the qualified alternative for result calculation.
New elective subjects for Class 12
Class 12 students will also be assessed using the 9 point grading scale. As part of its curriculum revamp, CBSE has introduced four new skill based electives:
- Land Transportation Associate
- Electronics and Hardware
- Physical Activity Trainer
- Design Thinking and Innovation
Additionally, students can opt for only one subject among Informatics Practices (Code 065), Computer Science (Code 083), and Information Technology (Code 802).
