The herb beehive is not a new concept. The historical index of the top-bar nest dates back to the 1600s. Most of today's high beehives are taken to work in the 1960s. Designed for use in Kenya, Africa, it is also known as Kenya Hive. Today it is also used in many other developing lands because of its simple design and effective management methods.
In recent years the United States has become increasingly popular. The traditional Langstroth beehive has several boxes (supers) and many other parts that are difficult to build or expensive to buy. In addition to the beehive, the Langstroth hive needs more pieces of honey harvesting and handling equipment. Not so with the nest of the top bar, as you can read below. Simple and Uncontrolled The top bar has only a few items: nest body (box), 20 to 30 top bars (frames), and cover; that's all you will ever need. Compare that with your Langstroth nest. Bees build their own comb that eliminates the need for expensive frames.
The top bars are reused after harvest. Non-Attractive Design, The top bar of the bar has been healthy. To test your bees, you do not need to separate everything. Therefore, your bees will not be greatly disturbed by your presence and combing the comb. Simple Harvest To harvest your honey, simply remove the barriers with honey. Unlike traditional methods, you will not need to divide the hive and disturb the bees too much.
Not only is the top beehive less stressful to harvest, nor does it disturb the bees too much. In addition to honey, the top bar has many bees to harvest. You don't even need a honeycomb/centrifuge or a non-harvest knife that costs thousands of dollars. Smoking is not required, and many high nest areas users do not even wear protective clothing.
I advise you to use some form of protection, gloves, and a veil as a minimum. Once you have removed the beehive, the bees will continue their work as usual. Try that in Langstroth nest. Healthy Bees The top bar hive is designed for ideal bee conditions for life. This makes the colony even stronger and makes it more resistant to pests and diseases on its own, much better than the Langstroth nest. Without healthy bees, this will save you hundreds of dollars in medicine and frustration.
Why does not everyone use top bar hives? The top bar nest is not designed for high honey production, although there have been reports otherwise. For a recreational beekeeper, a few pounds of honey is worth a treat. You will harvest more bees with a hive top bar. Anyone who enjoys hobbies should be more interested in keeping healthy bees than squeezing a few pounds of honey from a depressed, overworked colony. With one nest of top bars, you will still have more honey than your whole family and friends.
Note: Always wear a full bee suit with a veil and matching gloves and boots. It is a good idea to check with a ‘friend’ to make sure all the zippers and hook closures, and loop are properly closed. Bees' suits and clothes should be washed regularly to eliminate odors that can make bees more aggressive.
