HOW TO STOP PROCRASTINATION: 9 TIPS TO TRY
1. WATCH OUT FOR PERFECTIONISM
While not all procrastination comes from perfectionism, it can certainly be a factor. Think about it: when you allow perfectionism to prevail, you can enable projects to become so large that you are intimidated into starting them. Then you may find yourself in the grace of procrastination.
If you find that you are procrastinating with perfectionism, you can help yourself by softening your standards. Shoot at "good enough" and work to the "big" if you have the time and energy. Let the goal of perfection not prevent you from starting!
2. GET FAST STUFF OUT OF THE WAY
Sometimes too long a to-do list can intimidate you with procrastination; all those items that need your attention can take away from you the energy you need to get started. One helpful hint on "how to stop procrastination" is to make a list of things you need to do and note how long each item should last.
While reviewing the list, take any item that can be completed in 5 minutes or less and do so immediately. This can not only quickly shorten your to-do list, but also charge you with energy when you make notes. It also sets you up in the right direction to finish the rest.
3. TAKE SMALL STEPS
Breaking down protracted projects into more miniature stages is a well-known and effective procrastination technique. It can be much easier to start a project that you know you can do quickly, and by taking a few initial steps in the right direction, you can continue moving more efficiently and continue until you're done. (When you follow each step, you are more likely to feel more energized and motivated to do more.)
4. REWARD YOURSELF
As you take each of these smaller steps, the sense of satisfaction and accomplishment you feel can be their reward and create their motivation to move on to the next step. However, sometimes you can take advantage of an additional reward.
In these cases, you can move forward by attaching small rewards to each of your small steps or a more significant bonus when you complete several. Go to the movies, celebrate milestones with friends, do what you love when doing your homework. You may be afraid of the task itself, but treats, on the other hand, can motivate you to get started!
5. DO SIMPLE THINGS FIRST
When a task seems extraordinary, it is often because we doubt our ability to solve it. One way to build self-confidence is first to solve the simpler parts of the job. When you do more straightforward tasks, the work may seem less daunting, and it will be easier to stop procrastinating when you do it.
Once the light parts of the job are complete, you will have less overall work left, so the rest is more minor and may seem easier to do. In both directions, your confidence can increase if you take on the most straightforward tasks first.
6. OR DO HARD THINGS FIRST
If you know you can accomplish a task, but you just get frustrated thinking about the work involved, save stress and solve unpleasant or complicated parts of the work first. As a quick removal of the bandage, you will get rid of the most uncomfortable part of the job and rid yourself of all the discomfort that comes from fear and avoiding it before you finally stop procrastinating and do it anyway. Do not continue the stress! Remove heavy parts, and the rest of the work will be much easier.
7. BE OPTIMISTIC
Another way to deal with self-doubt, which often leads to procrastination, is to start thinking more like a classic optimist: highlight the positive and minimize the negative parts of work and about yourself.
Take a closer look at why you may feel that you can't accomplish this task, and challenge those views by actively considering the reasons you can: your strengths, your resources, and your success-like functions that you've done successfully in the past. Focus more on why you can do it and less on why you think you can't.
8. LET YOUR TEMPTATIONS WARM YOU UP
Never has a TV show seemed so inviting to me as I procrastinate and avoid a big project. TV shows, conversations with friends, snacks - suddenly, these events can feel irresistible! I'm sure you can have a relationship.
When you think about stopping procrastination, part of the solution looks you in the face: look at these things that arise as tempting distractions, and use them as a reward! Just tell yourself that whatever you want to do, it can be your reward for a job well done when you do part of your job.
9. USE YOUR ENERGY WISELY
Have you ever noticed that you have more energy at a particular time of day? (For me, it's usually late in the morning.) Dealing with the things that typically fall victim to procrastination during these "energy windows" can help you be much more productive, make the job more accessible, and help stop procrastination much more quickly.
Over the next few days, notice when these more energetic times of the day are for you. Then leave the tasks easier when you are surprised at the end of the day, and use your energy for your more difficult tasks when you have more of them.
I hope you get into a productive zone following these tips, cheers..!!
