1) Bitcoin
Bitcoin is a cryptocurrency and worldwide payment system. It is the first decentralized digital currency, as the system works without a central bank or single administrator. The network is peer-to-peer and transactions take place between users directly, without an intermediary. These transactions are verified by network nodes through the use of cryptography and recorded in a public distributed ledger called a blockchain. Bitcoin was invented by an unknown person or group of people under the name Satoshi Nakamoto and released as open-source software in 2009.
2) Ethereum
Ethereum is a blockchain technology that can be used for cryptocurrency transactions. Ethereum was created by Vitalik Buterin, who was only 19 years old at the time. He has since gone on to create other popular cryptocurrencies, such as Ripple and Bitcoin Cash. The Ethereum network has been running since 2015 and is one of the most popular cryptocurrencies out there.
3) Litecoin
Litecoin is a peer-to-peer cryptocurrency and open source software project released under the MIT/X11 license. Inspired by, and technically nearly identical to Bitcoin (BTC), Litecoin creation and transfer is based on an open source protocol, and unlike Bitcoin's SHA-256 based proof of work, Litecoin uses a memory-hard, script based proof of work algorithm to target the regular computers people use for mining with graphics cards.
4) Bitcoin Cash
Bitcoin Cash is an open-source, peer-to-peer, electronic cash system. Bitcoin Cash is the name of the token that was created during the hard fork on August 1st 2017. The purpose of Bitcoin Cash was to lower fees and make transactions faster. Bitcoin Cash has a larger block size limit than bitcoin's 1 MB block size limit, and it also can process more transactions in each block.
5) Ripple
Ripple is one of the most popular cryptocurrencies on the market. The coin has a current price of $0.27 and is predicted to grow up to $1.00 by the end of 2019.
6) Stellar
Stellar is an open-source protocol for value exchange. The native asset, Lumens (XLM), is a digital currency. The goal of the Stellar network is to facilitate cross-border payments quickly, cheaply and reliably. With just one transaction, a user can send money across borders and currencies with ease. To fund your wallet, you can buy lumens on various exchanges or earn them by carrying out transactions on the Stellar network.
7) NEO
NEO is a Chinese cryptocurrency, which was started in 2014. It is the first decentralized and open-source cryptocurrency. NEO runs on the NEP-5 token, which has a 1:1 ratio with GAS. NEO's goal is to use blockchain technology and digital identity to digitize assets and smart contracts on its platform so that they can be tracked securely via a peer-to-peer network.
8) Cardano
Cardano is an open-source blockchain and cryptocurrency project. Cardano aims to be a smart contract platform with advanced features, improved scalability, and a layered architecture. It is the first blockchain project to evolve out of a scientific philosophy and a research-first driven approach. The development team consists of a large global collective of engineers and researchers from various universities and institutions around the world.
