1. Scalp massage and oiling.
Massaging your scalp helps to reduce tension and relieve stress. It increases blood circulation in the scalp, making your hair follicles healthy, thereby boosting hair growth. Hair oil made of natural ingredients should be used for better results—the best way to do id by using fingertips and applying medium pressure to the scalp.
2. Trim your hair.
Trimming hair encourages hair growth by getting rid of damaged, broken, and split ends. As a result, your hair will beakless and grow longer in a shorter period. You can trim your hair after every 4 or 5 months.
3. Eat healthily.
The health of your hair depends on the food you consume. An improper diet can cause imbalance and lead to hair problems, such as hair fall, dryness, dullness, and frizziness. Ensure to include foods rich in proteins, vitamins A, B, C, D, E, and k, and zinc and iron minerals in your diet.
4. Use natural hair products.
Natural products have been in use for ages because of the benefits it provides. Unlike chemical-based products, they never cause any side- effects to your scalp and hair.
5. Drink plenty of water.
Did you know that one-fourth of every hair strand is water weight? That's why it is essential to drink enough water to avoid hair loss. Drinking plenty of water helps the scalp to stay hydrated that results in healthier and shinner hair. It is recommended that women drink 2 liters of water per day and for men 3 liters by the Institute Of Medicine (IOM).
6. Things to avoid for healthy hair.
i. Avoid washing your hair with warm or hot water, leading to dry and frizzy hair.
ii. Excessive heat styling tools can significantly damage your hair by making it dry, weak, and prone to breakage and split ends.
iii. Let the hair dry naturally and dont brush while it's wet as wet hair is more fragile and breaks easily.
iv. Overexposure to the sun can also harm the hair cuticle and cause hair fall.
v. Chemical hair products should be avoided as much as you can because too much chemical treatment will disturb the scalp's pH level, leading to irritation, dandruff, and hair fall.
vi. According to a study conducted in 2013 https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3927171/ hard water contains salts like calcium carbonate ( CaCO3) and magnesium sulfate (MgSO4) that may cause fragility of the hair. The best way to combat this is by using a filter.
7. Protection from pollution.
The hair is highly susceptible to pollution and other toxins. Prolonged exposure to those may cause dandruff, hair fall, dry scalp, etc. Wearing a scarf or cap would help to protect the hair from these pollutions and direct sunlight.
Other tips include washing the hair regularly to remove dirt, excess oil, and sweat that accumulates on the scalp. I am applying a hair mask from time to time and conditioning hair to grow healthy, smooth, and shiny. However, it is recommended to wash the hair only twice or thrice a week with a mild shampoo that contains natural ingredients such as natural herbs, which protects the hair and keeps it healthy.
