Toxic relationships can be damaging to one's mental and emotional well-being. They can drain your energy and cause you to feel anxious, depressed, and even physically sick. It's important to recognize the signs of a toxic relationship and take steps to address the issue before it becomes even more harmful.
1. You're always jealous of your partner's other lovers
When someone else is making you feel jealous, they're probably trying to control you, or get close to you, and that's not a good thing. Your jealousy is the same as love, love is jealous.
A toxic partner may be extremely jealous and possessive, constantly checking up on you and accusing you of being unfaithful. This behavior can make you feel like you are constantly walking on eggshells and can lead to feelings of isolation.
2. They snoop through your texts, calls and social media
If someone is looking at your texts or you're paranoid that they're being shady, it's a red flag. People who cheat usually have trust issues, so they have to make sure that their affair won't be discovered. Once the relationship is over, they're more likely to stick around because they want to keep control.
3. They give you a pass for bad behavior
If your partner knows all your secrets, calls you out for being dramatic and does not call you out, then you might have a toxic relationship. It's okay to have boundaries. If they have to get their phone in your face, all of a sudden, to find out how your day is going, that's a red flag.
4. You're often alone when they're out
If your partner always wants to go out with their friends or go out for drinks, but it's always you that is on the backburner, it might be a sign of a toxic relationship. When your partner wants to spend more time with their friends, but you're still stuck on the couch watching Netflix and go out when they're busy, that's a good sign you're in a toxic relationship.
5. You find new friends as your connection decreases
Are you finding other couples that you can talk to about your problems, and who will help you get through the rough patches? The connection between you two is so important, and can be a sign of true love.
6. They aren't attracted to you anymore
When the chemistry you once had disappears, it could be a sign that you've been playing mind games with your partner, and they aren't feeling it anymore. If they are constantly finding excuses to go to their exes and have emotional affairs, that might be a sign.
7. Your gut tells you something is wrong
If your gut tells you something is wrong, it might be a sign that you're with the wrong person. Listen to your gut!
Healthy relationships go a long way in building healthy people, so try to recognize signs of a toxic relationship, and if you notice these signs, it might be time to get out.
If you are in a toxic relationship, it is important to seek help and support. Talk to a trusted friend, family member, or therapist about your situation. Remember that you deserve to be in a healthy and respectful relationship, and don't be afraid to seek the help you need to achieve that.
