Top 7 Quick Stress Busters

How do you react when your plans fail? Do you roll with the punches? Or does anxiety keep you from enjoying life? To a large extent, our personality determines how we deal with the stress in our lives, but here are 7 things that can help keep your stress under control:

1. Sleep more. Sleeping less than 6 hours a night is very common in our society. But experts keep telling us that we need at least 8 hours. Not only to relax our body, but also to rejuvenate our mind. "Tired" and "husky" seem to go hand in hand. Don't use your bedroom to watch the news or finish some work from the office. Make that room your retreat, a place to relax and escape from the day. Have a hot cup of tea, take a warm bath or read a paperback to relax.

2. Have faith. Praying a short prayer in times of stress can make you feel at peace, especially when the situation is one over which you really have no control. Studies have shown that people who rely on a higher power have lower blood pressure. Being able to forgive people can affect your blood pressure as well. Hate is not good for your health!

3. Turn it off. The convenience that your cell phone have added to  our lives can really be a double-edged sword. We are so dependent on them that it seems that we cannot live without them. This increased reach means that not only can our loved ones reach us at any time, but work too. If your employer legitimately requires your cell phone number, make sure you set clear limits on who can and cannot be reached. Your vacation time is yours.

4. Take a vacation. It doesn't have to be a fancy vacation resort. A day at the beach, or an afternoon at the park, will do. Just be wherever you are and don't think about bills, work, or whatever the stress is. Taking time for yourself is important, so do it! You'll feel better with a fresh perspective.

5. Treat yourself. Sign up for a yoga class at your local gym or community center. The cost is nominal, and you'll feel even more relaxed after just one session. Monthly massages or spa treatments are also a great way to recharge. You'll pass out feeling like a million dollar bowl of jelly.

6.breathing

Slow, deep breaths can help lower blood pressure and heart rate. Try breathing pranayama, a yogic method that involves breathing through one nostril at a time to relieve anxiety. The technique should work in the same way as acupuncture, balancing the mind and body.

7. Listen to Music

No matter what the song is, sometimes playing the lyrics to a favorite tune all feels right. If you're in a public place, just listening to music can be a quick fix for a bad mood. Classical music can be especially relaxing just before bedtime.
