Fact 1) By 2022 there will be 1.4 billion devices

 connected to the internet

That means there will be two billion more connected devices than people on the planet. Crazy right? As always, technology marches ever onward and we're all keeping up as best we can. The world has no shortage of possibilities when it comes to what technologies may arise in the coming years. What are some mind-blowing facts about tech in 2022 that you wish you knew sooner? Fact 2) There will be 5G wireless network speeds

 on our smartphones

Nokia predicted that by 2022 we would be seeing wireless network speeds of up to 10 gigabits per second on our smartphones. This prediction makes a lot of sense when you think about it. Right now, 4G is the fastest wireless standard, and current reports are predicting a speedy 14 gigabits per second connection shortly with 5G networks. The next generation's advancement in speed would make for some seriously mind-blowing technology facts you'll wish you knew sooner!

1) Anticipated smartphone speeds will be 50 times faster than our current phones.

2) Transmission capacity will be vastly increased from 5G networks--think enough bandwidth to transmit the entire TV series Game of Thrones before it starts airing in less than one second.

Fact 3) Autonomous cars will make up 25% of

 all new cars sold

It's only a matter of time before we get to a point where the technology is advanced enough that autonomous cars will not just be an option, but the standard. This means huge changes in what we consider to be transportation and our everyday lives. Imagine never having to do your maintenance on your car again because it can drive itself, or take your family on vacation without worrying about road conditions. There are many examples like this where you may have not given much thought to just how disruptive this shift will be in our lives.

Fact 4) India's digital market grew by 31%

According to a report by the Brookings Institution, India's digital market grew by 31% in 2017. By 2022, India is projected to have the third largest number of digital consumers in the world at 180 million.

In that year the virtual reality p0**n industry is set to reach a whopping $1 billion in revenue by offering affordable headsets and movies for purchase. At first, these features might seem a little unnerving—most people think of embarrassing moments where you forget to take off your headset or talk to someone next to you when immersed in a scene—but as time goes on this immersive media experience is only going to get better.

Fact 8) Within 15 years augmented reality (AR)

 will replace 90% of screens

If you're not familiar with AR, it's a type of technology that allows users to superimpose images, videos, and sound over the real world. Right now we see the most use in gaming and entertainment, but by 2022 there will be an estimated 18.4 billion augmented reality devices available for home use alone. Of those nearly two billion devices, we predict 90% will be used for screens of all types. We might not know what exactly is coming on AR screens - but I can tell you one thing for sure: it's gonna change everything! 9 out of 10 people prefer shopping online over offline: In the past five years, global eCommerce sales have doubled and mobile purchases increased by 220%. Nowadays about nine out of ten people prefer to shop online instead of going into stores because they find them more convenient. With improvements in product search features, it has become easier than ever to buy from your phone or tablet so there's no need to put up with crowds and long lines at retail stores any longer. What does this mean? A better chance for merchants like us to connect directly with our customers.
