1. Dow Hill, Kurseong, West Bengal:-
About 30 km away from Darjeeling is the Dow Hill of Kurseong, which ranks number 1 among the haunted places in India. It is a beauty and a beast. Day or night, paranormal activities never cease here. Tourists visiting the place feast their eyes on the natural beauty of the destination and their ears on the horror tales associated with the haunted sites abounding here. The Death Road, which lies between Dow Hill Road and Forest Office, is the hotspot. People have seen a young boy without a headless ghost roaming and disappearing in the forest and experienced the terrifying feeling of being chased or seen by a bodiless entity. While some have seen the red-eyed pair of red eyes staring out of the woods, some have seen the ghost of a woman in grey. The paranormal activities are so intense that most visitors lose sense or kill themselves.
2 . Bhangarh Fort, Rajasthan:-
No introduction is needed. Bhangarh Fort is one of the most famous haunted places in Rajasthan, India. Located in the Alwar district, the ruins of Bhangarh Fort have been declared haunted after sunset as per the Archaeological Survey of India. Legend has it that during the 16th century, the city's Tantrik fell in love with Ratnavati, the princess of Bhangarh, who was considered the most beautiful woman in the world at the time! Such was his craze that this lover decided to use black magic oil to woo the princess. When the princess came to know of his evil intentions, she threw oil on a boulder which rolled on the lover and killed him. Just before he died, he cursed that the whole village would die and be in ruins. Since then, the village has been left in ruins and is haunted by the ghost of this jilted lover.
3. Three Kings Church, Goa:-
As much as it sounds like an oxymoron, it's true! The Three King Church in Goa is filled with the souls of kings who entered a battle here. Legend has it that both the kings were killed by a rival who wanted to rule the kingdom himself. Soon after the murder, he poisons himself in the wake of public outcry, and the spirits of these kings haunt the church. Locals also experience "a strange, ominous presence" around the church and hear noises and screams from this abandoned church.
4. Lambi Dehar Mines, Uttarakhand:-
Situated at a distance of 10 km from Mussoorie, this abandoned mine is spread over a length of a few kilometers, which adds to the eerie factor and is one of the most haunted places in India. The story goes that during the 1990s, about 50,000 miners lost their lives here due to improper mining practices. The workers died a painful death due to cough and lung disease. Since then, people have reported mysterious incidents at the scene, such as helicopter crashing or hearing groans and cries in pain.
5. Dumas Beach, Gujarat:-
Once a burial ground, Dumas Beach is considered to be the most haunted place in Gujarat. The tourist attraction becomes devil's paradise after sunset. Those who tried to test it and stayed overnight either never returned or came away with the worst supernatural experience. It is considered to be the abode of many souls due to being a burial place. It is about 20 km from Surat city.
6. Jatinga, Assam:-
The small tribal village of Jatinga is the only hill station in Assam and is notorious for the mysterious "bird suicide." Scientists and ornithologists have made many unsuccessful attempts to understand the logic behind this but were unsuccessful. Every year during September to November in a specific region. Villagers believe that evil spirits were doing this to terrorize them,, making it one of the most haunted places in India.
7. Shaniwarwada Fort, Pune:-
Often referred to as the historical attraction of Pune, Shaniwarwada Fort also has a spooky side, which makes it even more interesting. Built by the Maratha ruler Bajirao I for his wife Kashibai, the fort was the center of the Marathas and Peshwas until independence. Nana Saheb's youngest son Narayanrao was 16 years old, who succeeded him. Since he was a minor, his uncle Raghunathrao was in charge of the affairs of the state till he became an adult. This gave rise to jealousy, and Raghanathrao's wife arranged for the tribals to kill Narayanrao, the legal heir. The young boy ran to his uncle's chambers to rescue him, shouted "Save me, Uncle," but was killed and thrown into the river. Now every full moon night, people hear the sound of shouting for Narayanrao's help or running in the corridors.
