These famous writers had the most influence on the people due to what they wrote or how their writings changed the country. Here is the list of Indian writers.
1. Amrita Pritam
Amrita Pritam was an Indian writer and poet who wrote in Punjabi and Hindi languages. She was born in Gujranwala and raised in Lahore. Her writing career began in 1935 with Thandiyan Kirnan (cool rays ), her first collection of poems. In 1956 Pritam became the first female poet to receive the Sahitya Akademi Award for her collection ‘Sunhure ‘.she is considered the first prominent woman, Punjabi novelist, essayist, and a leading 20th-century poet.
2. Manjeshwar Govinda
Manjeshwar Govinda Pai, also known as Rashtrakavi Govinda Pai, was a Kannada poet. He was awarded the first ‘Rashtrakavi’ title by the Madras Government. He was also a prolific prose writer. His earliest composition in prose was Srikrishna Charitra (1909) which makes for remarkable reading. He won a lasting place in the gallery of the greatest poets of Kannada literature. On his 125th birth anniversary, a national award was instituted in his name, and the old house at Manjeshwar is mooted to be a national monument.
3. Jiddu Krishnamurti
Jiddu Krishnamurti was a speaker and writer on philosophical and spiritual subjects. He was born in the north of Madras, India. His interests included psychological revolution, the nature of mind, meditation, inquiry, human relationships, and bringing about a radical change in society. He wrote many books, among them ‘The first and last Freedom, the only revolution, and Krishnamurti’s Notebook.
4. Manjula Padmanabhan
Manjula Padmanabhan is a playwright, journalist, comic strip artist, and children’s book author. She won the Greek Onassis Award for her play Harvest. Her play ‘Harvest ‘ won the 1997 Greek Onassis Award for theatre. She has written one more power play; Lights out, Hidden Fires is a series of monologues. She has won three distinct hats, primarily that of playwright, cartoonist, and writer of fiction.
5.Deepak Chopra
He is an Indian-born American author and public speaker, and alternative medicine advocate. He is a promoter of popular forms of spirituality. His books and videos have made him one of the best-known and wealthiest figures in alternative medicine. He was born in New Delhi. Chopra’s book Ageless Body, Timeless Mind: The Quantum alternative to growing old was published in 1993. He speaks and writes regularly about metaphysics, including the study of consciousness and Vedanta philosophy.
6.Sampooran Singh Kalra
He is known popularly by his pen name Gulzar or Gulzar Saab, is an Indian poet and lyricist. He started his career with music director S.D. Burman was a lyricist in the 1963 film Bandini and worked with many music directors. He was awarded Padma Bhushan, The Sahitya Academy Award, and the Dadasaheb Phalke Award. Also, He won 5 several Indian National film awards. Film Aandhi and Mausam directed by him. He also directed Kirdaar.
7.Arundhati Roy
She is an author and political activist. She is best known for her award-winning novel ‘The God of Small Things,’ which won the Man booker prize of fiction in 1997. She was born in Shilong, Meghalaya, India. She wrote the screenplay for ‘In Which Annie Gives It Those Ones’ (1989), a movie based on her experience as a student of architecture, in which she appeared as a performer, and ‘Electric Moon (1992). Both were directed by her husband. Roy won the National Film Award for Best Screenplay in 1988.
