Top 7 Common Mistakes Holding Back Your Gains

Do you find it frustrating when you only make small gains in your physique and keep seeing the scale going down? Here are some mistakes that hold you back.

1. You neglect your nutrition

If you're doing a strict diet and exercising like crazy, you could easily fall off the bandwagon. Let's face it: A slice of pizza is incredibly satisfying. Don't give up on your diet!

2. You're not focusing on your off-season

It's easy to get lulled into a dieting routine and put off working out for the "off-season". In some gyms, you could do nothing but cardio all summer. But if you do, then your metabolism will stay sluggish and you'll stay on the same weight. You're going to have to start workouts once you're back from vacation.

3. You're not sticking to your workouts

If you make getting to the gym a priority, you won't skip any workouts. You'll always make it to the gym at the same time every day and you'll stick to the prescribed plan. It's OK if you can only lift two days a week or that you can't do a "cardio day" or that you take a day off once a week. Small victories count, and they will keep you motivated.

4. You're not refueling properly

The more calories you eat, the more energy you will have. You can have as many green smoothies and oatmeal as you want, but if your body isn't getting enough food, it won't make the most of those calories. The average amount of food a woman should eat a day is 2,000 calories. While most women can't eat that much, if you are going to exercise a lot, then you're going to need the energy.

5. You aren't working out different parts of your body

It's easy to go to the gym and only lift one thing, but working on every part of your body is very important.

For example, many women will only do cardio. They do cardio for a half hour and then go home. You should actually be doing lots of cardio in order to get that shape. And, you should be doing strength training, even though it doesn't usually get as much attention. Don't forget your arms. Women with muscular arms are the best in the world!

6. You're not stretching properly

Stretching is crucial, especially in your workouts. Your legs will be sore after your workout, so it's very important that you stretch your quadriceps, hamstrings and hips.

7. You're not eating enough calories

Even if you're not getting the diet plan or workouts down perfectly, if you're not eating enough calories, then you'll never see a dieting weight. If you're eating only 1,200 calories, then your body will use up 1,300 in the process of breaking down 1,200 calories. You'll gain weight, but if you're exercising it will all come off again after your next workout.

Change is only a small setback, and a small victory can be enough to keep you on track. Take a look at how much weight you could lose if you just make some small changes. The results are impressive. You'll be motivated to keep going.
