Parisian makeup artist Violette Serra knows the answer to this question: “I want people to say, 'Oh my God, your skin looks amazing!' And not“ You have a great foundation, ”she explains. Finding the perfect remedy is half the battle.
It is equally important to apply the foundation, like the illusionist Houdini, to match the complexion and hide any imperfections perfectly.
Together with three popular makeup artists, we reveal the main secret of achieving that very "second skin" effect.
1. Prepare your skin correctly:
It is clear that clean and well-groomed skin is the basis for even coverage, but for a healthier and more radiant complexion, use a moisturizing mask and lymphatic massage before applying the main foundation.
When make-up artist Nina Park works with her clients (among them Zoe Kravitz and Bella Hadid ), she starts with a sheet mask, which she chooses exactly according to the type and condition of the skin: to combat oily sheen, the composition should contain rose water for abundant hydration. And green tea to relieve inflammation.
After the mask, gently massage a moisturizer into your skin to increase circulation and reduce swelling. “This will create a natural glow which will make your face look more vigorous.
2. Primer (as needed):
"Primer or not primer, that is the question" is an eternal problem for both amateurs and professional makeup artists. Although Parisian Violette Serra usually avoids a lot of makeup, she still uses a primer to prolong the effect of the foundation for the whole day.
“I apply matte to the hot spots (forehead, hairline, sides of the nose, and around the mouth) and then a shimmery primer to the top of the cheekbones,” Park explains, adding that he only does this with the pads of his fingers.
3. Apply tone from center to periphery:
Serra advises: "Start applying the foundation from the center of the face, from the apples of the cheeks, and gradually stretch the product towards the periphery."
In addition, the makeup artist recommends paying attention to another important part of the face - the area around the mouth, which is prone to the appearance of a yellow undertone.
To make the foundation look as natural as possible, Violette often skips the bridge of the nose - this allows freckles, who have them, to appear - and the corners of the nostrils so that the tone does not stand out on dry areas.

4. Do not paint, but drive:
“It doesn't matter with what you apply the foundation - with a brush, a beauty blender, or with your fingers - the main thing is to do it with patting movements as if driving into the skin, and do not apply it like paint on a canvas.
This will help create an even surface and avoid streaking.
5. Highlighter for places where the sun hits:
For a more dramatic effect, apply the highlighter to the most prominent points of the face that naturally reflect light, such as the cheekbones, temples, and Cupid's arch.
'' I'm a fan of powdery highlighters because they look a little fake,” says Violett. "Creamy textures will give more natural shine as if you were not using any products."
6. Blot then apply:
First, blot your face with a tissue to remove excess oil. Then use a light translucent powder to set the foundation and prevent unwanted shine.
“Apply the powder with a brush and very light strokes only on the areas with the oiliest content,” says Nasrat. Silky smoothness and an even tone with a subtle radiance effect - that's what will help to achieve the effect of perfect skin.
