TOP 6 TYPES OF HEADACHE

Headaches can sometimes be mild, but in many cases, they can cause severe pain that makes it difficult to concentrate at work and perform other daily activities. In fact, approximately 45 million Americans frequently have severe headaches that can be disabling. Luckily, most headaches can be managed with medication and lifestyle changes.

1. SINUSITIS

If you experience having a headache accompanied by a clogged nose, you might have Sinusitis. This headache surrounds hollow spaces in the bones of your nose, cheeks, and eyes. Drinking plenty of fluids may help thin and expel the mucus that may cause your clogged nose and headache. You may also do steam to ease the inflammation around your sinus cavities.

2. ACUTE GLAUCOMA

This kind of headache is caused by the increased pressure of your eyes that can cause blindness if not treated as soon as it's detected. You may have headaches with this kind of condition accompanied by blurring of vision. Refer to your physician for the medications for your eyes.

3. EYE AND MUSCLE STRAIN

Too much exposure to a computer or cellphone screen and long hours of reading may cause strain in your eyes and muscle that can lead to headaches. Always remember to have breaks from reading and try to relax for few minutes. Check the direction of the light and your posture to help prevent recurrence of eye and muscle strain.

4. TENSION HEADACHE

If you cannot sleep well at night and are under stress, you might have Tension Headache. This headache may travel from the head, scalp, or neck and is usually associated with muscle tightness in these mentioned areas. It's like you are wearing a band on your forehead. Avoid trigger factors and oversleeping. Keep a diary to help identify what triggers the condition. Immediately go to a darkened room and lie down. Place a cool, damp cloth on the forehead. Relax the entire body, focusing on the eyes, forehead, jaw, and neck muscles, and working down the toes.

5. CLUSTER HEADACHE

Headache that is unilateral or one-sided, or severe pain located around one eye, might be a form of headache called Cluster Headache. This is accompanied by severe pain that occurs without warning and in a cyclical pattern. It may also be accompanied by tearing and nasal congestion. Refer to your physician if you experienced this kind of headache. Massage your neck muscles and take a warm bath. Practice relaxation techniques and get adequate rest. Pain relievers can help but do not overuse them. Lying down in a dark room may provide relief. Stop smoking and minimize alcohol intake.

6. MIGRAINE

If you have a cluster headache but have nausea, vomiting, photophobia, phonophobia, or sensitivity to sound, and it worsens with exertion, you probably have Migraines. This is a recurrent vascular headache of severe intensity. Over-the-counter pain relievers are of little use because these take effect too slowly. Oxygen therapy may be given upon the advice of the physician. Acupuncture has been suggested to be a useful non-pharmacological therapy.

Headache is one of the most common but most varied health problems occurring in 3 out of 4 people. It may have many causes, and the site, severity, and frequency with which it occurs vary greatly. It is seldom a symptom of underlying brain disease. However, if the headache is persistent or recurring for no particular reason at all, it is advisable to consult a physician at once.
