As for today, I have some fascinating facts about pirates. It's because I just finished watching the anime one piece, which is based on Pirates, and it's amazing! To the question, "Why are you pitching for old pirate facts that are irrelevant to the date?"
The way they live their life freely, get whatever they want whenever they want, it's just liberating to think of (ps: I am not advocating the idea that one must resort to piracy just to be liberated but, if you hit it off, You have a crewmate right here!) Alright, now, without further ado, I'll share the things that I found most fascinating about these Pirates.
1) One-piece
No, I don't mean the anime one piece, but the actual implication and story. Many treasures belonged to the pirate king Olivier Levasseur, but unfortunately (for him), He was captured and received a public execution... But right before he died, he threw a piece of paper towards the audience as the execution stage was on a high stage of some sort?
And well, then he said, "If you want my treasure, go find it, I left it there, whoever shall de-code this message can keep the treasure," this line literally made me wanna abandon this realm and make my own ship and crew and go treasure hunting, but then, my potential disagreed and, here I am.
Ah well, This piece of paper had coded language that would lead to the quadrants where Olivier kept his treasure. It is speculated that the monetary value of his treasure is more or less 1 million USD in the current time, yet, even after 300 years, no one could find his treasure. My brain filled with conspiracies says otherwise, but we will leave that for some other time.

2) Pirate Flags
This is very well known that pirates used symbols to be recognized immediately by their opponents (popularly called jolly roger), I'm sure you have seen a commonly used Flag with a skull and two bones, But this Flag represents that pirate crew, so there are several different types of flag, not necessarily just a skull or bones, it comes in a lot of variety.
But what's so interested about that? Well, these flags didn't just indicate that it is a pirate ship; it also indicates " their mood" I know it sounds weird, right? But that's how it is. And the one particularly Disturbing thing is When these pirate ships used a pure red flag is. This would indicate that if you don't get away, you won't be shown any mercy; in easier words, it's like an announcement of war for anyone and everyone who gets in their way.
And the funny part is that at times some pirates would use a normal flag (representing their crew), but as soon as the other pirate ship gets in a closer range, they'd change the flag to red Lol ... They were really good at deceiving others that's for sure.
3) Female Pirates
So, yes, of course, there were tons of female pirates, but the thing that really made me laugh was that most of these female pirates used to dress like a man and usually hid their identity from others, but not for long!! Once they would defeat their opponent, they used to show them their breast, which indicated that they got their asses kicked by a woman, and with all my honesty, this is the most badass way of giving a farewell to your enemy.
4) All pirates don't hide their treasure in the ground
We all have a weird conception that all the pirates hide their treasure on some island they visited; now this is not true; most of the pirates didn't even keep gold...they only snatch Food, Booze, clothes, and other day to day material from the citizens (which was a part of their loot).
The only pirate who was well known for hiding his treasure on the ground was Captian Kidd. He was backstabbed by one of his crewmates, who went and exposed the location of his treasure, which explains why the other pirates believed in keeping their stuff with themselves instead.
5) Mateship
Now, this is simply an insurance system.. since the pirates had no relatives or loved ones (in most of the cases) to pass on their wealth once they died, But they did have close friends that they trusted, And so they would give down all their money and treasure to their friend once they died.
Some people also believe that mateship was limited to friendship and even gay marriage as they were constant companions.
6) Legal pirates?
I know how ironic that sounds, but it's true! Even though we may think that today these pirates have no standing..there was a time when the government had to legalize them due to their unending power, their wealth would actually exceed the government itself, which led to more powers in their hand, And so even the government had to take a step back and permit them to be a pirate!
There was another group of pirates called privateers, or in literal terms, a pirate with papers. As the name suggests, privateers were private individuals commissioned by governments to carry out quasi-military activities. They would sail in privately owned armed ships, robbing merchant's vessels and pillaging settlements belonging to a rival country.
