The #1 fear people have when investing in a home treadmill (or any piece of exercise equipment) is that they won't get used to it.
It dispenses, you set it up and use it for a then it sits…and waits.
A few months down the road, you see how dusty it has become and how much space it is taking up. And you remember how much weight you lost by honestly using it. But now, it doubles as a clothes rack.
This article will help you make sure that doesn't happen.
The treadmill provides the best overall cardiovascular workout and is still the number one exercise machine for people who want to lose weight. So it is an investment in your health that is profitable...if you are ready to get the most out of it!
Here are 5 easy ways to get the best out of your home treadmill:
1) Do your research first
Make sure you look at what each treadmill offers you and compare it to your unique needs.
For example, if you live in a condo and/or like the neat things, a folding treadmill may be what you need. If you want a folding treadmill, do you prefer a manual folding treadmill or do you want a shock-assisted folding treadmill with wheels that are easy to move under?
If you like to drink water during your workout, make sure the treadmill console includes a water bottle. (It might surprise you how many treadmills don't have this feature.)
Do you get bored quickly and need a challenge? What about getting a treadmill with lots of user programs or compatible?
These things may seem small to you, they may cost you a little more; But if it means you're really enjoying it will be worth it!
2) Put the treadmill in a 'happy' location.
By 'happy' I mean well-lit, open and stimulating. Do not place it so that you face a bare wall while walking or running. I've tried this and the workout doesn't last long! If you get bored easily, put it in front of the television or in front of a window where you can watch an interesting scene while working out.
Rooms and spaces have a definite 'feel' to them and this will affect the success of your workout.
3) Get your exercise arsenal ready before the treadmill arrives.
Do you like to listen to music while exercising? Do you like to watch your favorite movies? What about reading magazines? What drives you to work and feel your best?
Get these things ready before you'll be three-quarters there. Carry several workout or favorite CDs around. Watch your favorite movies or shows on tape.
By placing an 'exercise' around your treadmill, you'll be more motivated you won't have to run around doing something when you want to start exercising.
Again, this may sound simple, but it works. Why do you think magazines, TVs and CD players are useful in the gym?
4) Create an exercise plan.
Before you start working out, try to have a plan, "the roadmap for your rock-hard body" so to speak. By writing down how long and what type of workout you'll be doing in weeks 1, 2, 3, 4, etc., you'll set yourself up for success.
Remember that you are planting the seeds for the body you want.
By creating a plan, you can see how many seeds you've sown (and how long it will take for results to come!) you'll be inspired to achieve (and max out) your health goals.
5) Track your progress
OK, this is related to #4, but it's an ongoing thing. By tracking your progress every day, you get a greater sense of accomplishment that snowballs into even more fat-burning results.
I suggest you have 'minimum goals' like "I will run for at least 10 minutes." or "I'll do it in 5-30 second intervals." It's probably them - which will encourage you even more and increase your sense of accomplishment.
And of course, you're also getting the most out of your treadmill!
Those are 5 ways you can make the best use of your home treadmill. It will pay huge dividends.
