5 Jaldapara wildlife sanctuary
wildlife preserve in West bengal state, northeast India. The preserve was established in 1941 mainly for the protection of the great Indian rhinoceros. It extends over an area of 84 square miles ( 217 square km ) in the northern part of the state, near the Bhutan border, and is composed of forested flatlands dissected torsa River and its tributaries the forest cover consist mainly of seattered teak and tall grass. Also within the sanctuary are swamp deer, leopard, sambar, Hog deer, Barking deer, wild pigs, jungle fowl, peaceful, quail, and an occasional elephant and tiger. There are riding elephant available in the preserve.
Located : The jaldapara wildlife sanctuary is located at the distance of 72 km from the River wood forest retreat. Dooars situated at the foothills of the eastetn Himalayas in Alipurduar district in West bengal and the banks of the river Torsa , Jaldapara covers 216 sq.km of forest land.
It was established in 1941 with aim to protect the one horned rhinoceros. Indian rhinoceros, and endangered species.
The sanctuary is home to of the big five wild animals the one horned Indian rhinoceros and Royal bengal tiger. The park holds the highest population of rhinoceros right after kaziranga National park, Assam. Other wild animals that can be found here are Elephants, leopard, sambar, Hog deer, Barking deer, spotted deer, wild boars, and Guar.
