Life isn't easy. Sometimes, distractions become a must for all of us. Especially amidst this pandemic, one of the main ways to avoid negativities is distracting ourselves from our miserable lives. And the best way to do it is by binge-watching dramas. Not many people notice how entertainment affects our day-to-day lives by affecting our moods, personalities, etc. The same applies to dramas too. The sad endings of those dramas make us forget about our own boring/miserable lives. The happy endings give us hope. We start believing that, maybe, one day, we'll have our own happy endings too. Isn't that inspiring? If you're a regular drama watcher, you must have already watched popular and wonderful dramas like Hotel Del Luna, True Beauty; It's Okay to Not be Okay, Crash Landing on You, etc. But are you aware of some of the other masterpieces which also happen to be underrated? No? Worry not! I'm here to help you learn about some of the mind-blowing dramas that many watchers are missing out on. So, buckle up your seat belt because we're about to go on a journey to explore great yet underappreciated dramas!
1. SKY Castle
Many people may think that SKY Castle is pretty popular. And yes, they're right to some extent. It was one of the highest-rated dramas in Korean cable television history. The 2018-2019 show aired on JTBC. The story revolves around a couple of rich families staying in a rich neighborhood called SKY castle and their different strategies to admit their kids to the top universities in Korea. The storyline is quite different from a typical drama.
The series shows how greed for success can lead a person to go to any extent and ruin many lives. Of course, the drama was top-rated among the Korean audience and received a positive response. But what about us, the international viewers? I personally haven't heard much about this show from international fans. Shouldn't we, as international fans, show some love towards this amazing show? If you haven't watched this particular drama, then you're definitely missing out on a masterpiece. Even Suga (Min Yoongi) and RM (Kim Namjoon) from BTS have recommended this show a couple of times.
2. Reply 1988
Just like SKY castle, many people will say that Reply 1988 isn't underrated either. But just like SKY castle, I haven't heard much about this drama from most of the drama fans. So I would say this drama is a bit underrated. Out of all the
The 'Reply' series is my personal favorite, and I recommend it to all the drama fans out there. The show is about a neighborhood and the daily lives of the families living there. This drama beautifully showcases people's daily lives back in the 1980s and 1990s, friendships, the importance of families, the feelings of first love, etc. This drama can make all the generations nostalgic, be it Millenials or generation Z. You can't expect a drama to be bad if its IMDb rating is 9.1/10. Also, if you're an adult and want to relive your teenage years, this show is the best one for you! Even non-drama watchers will become drama fans after watching this beautiful series.
3. The Package
Seriously, am I the only one who watched this drama? I've never, and I mean NEVER, heard someone talk about this drama.
I was totally shocked when I accidentally discovered this wonderful journey of a couple of families in the beautiful country, France. The show beautifully showcases how different people have different backstories. In this drama, different people travel to France and take a break from their sorrows. Isn't this what we all want? Watching this drama can make the viewer feel the beauty of life. So, if you're interested in leaving everything behind and going to a faraway place to forget about your worries, atleast for a couple of days, but the pandemic isn't allowing you to do so, then watching this drama is the best option for you!
4. Chicago Typewriter
If you're into the fantasy genre, then Chicago Typewriter can be one of the best options for you. Three people living in the 1930s reincarnated in the modern era and tried to answer many unanswered questions. The story of love, friendship, and reincarnation, of course, will not disappoint the viewers. This drama can have a long-lasting effect on anyone who watches it (saying this from my personal experience).
5. My Mister
Want to get some real taste of life? Then My Mister is here to satisfy your hunger. The story revolves around three middle-aged brothers who are experiencing the hardships of life and a woman in her 20's who's struggling with her miserable life instead of enjoying her youth. All the four come together to fight together through the war called life and heal each other. Unlike a typical drama, this show shows the real side of life, which many people of any gender, age, or nationality can relate to. This drama will surely make us realize that we aren't the only people going through hardships, and there are many people out there having the same amount of miseries in their lives. This may help us get the strength to continue with our struggles and to overcome them. This drama has a high IMDb rating of 9.1/10.
So this was my list of top 5 underrated dramas to watch. Of course, there are many others like the above-mentioned dramas. Once you start loving the underrated dramas, you'll observe how the underrated ones are always the best.
