Weight loss can be a problem for many these days, as we know almost everyone is doing work from home, and studying from home as well; that is making our lives sedentary by sitting in front of the electronic gadgets day and night, which is not only resulting in weight gain but also resulting in many dangerous health issues such as obesity, heart problems, cholesterol, low eye-sight, stress, depression and much more. So here, I will give you a few tips to get your life back on track at the comfort of your home.
1) Cut down your sugar intake:- Many studies have shown how bad sugar is for health as it goes through much chemical processing to get empty calories, unhealthy, with zero nutrition value product. It is the main cause of weight gain and can be addictive over time. Sugar will also give you health problems such as type 2 diabetes. So, avoid sugar completely. But that doesn't mean you can't have your favorite sweet dishes anymore. You can replace sugar with other healthy alternatives, which will help you in weight loss and nourish your body. Sugar can be replaced with Stevia, Jaggery, Thread sugar (Mishri), Coconut Sugar, Honey, Maple syrup, or Date sugar.
2) Eat more vegetables:- Including raw or cooked vegetables in your everyday meal can help you eat 20% less and in moderation. Vegetables are not only high in vitamins and minerals but also are very low in calories. Your plate must and should include 50% of fruits and veg, 25% protein, and 25% complex carbs. Have at least 1 bowl or a small plate of salad before lunch and dinner for better results.
3) Include whole grains:- Eating whole grains are much high in fiber than refined carbs. Replace your white rice, all-purpose flour, white bread. etc., to brown/semi-brown rice, whole wheat bread, quinoa, oats, broken wheat, etc. Always make sure to prepare your food at home to know what you're putting inside your body. Because when you go out to eat, you don't really know the exact ingredients used to make the dish at a restaurant.
4) Do not use refined oils:- Refined oils are made by many stages of chemical processing. It is made by heating the oil to a temperature over 200 degrees celsius, which results in the oil losing all its nutrition value and properties. It also goes through many other stages of adulteration. You get a tasteless, odorless, colorless liquid high in calories and causes health problems such as cholesterol, cancer, diabetes, heart diseases, etc. Now, instead of using refined oils, you can opt for cold-pressed or wood pressed oils such as cold-pressed coconut oil, mustard seed oil, groundnut oil, and best of all, clarified butter, also known as Ghee.
5) Be physically active:- As said before, having a sedentary lifestyle can lead to many problems. So, make sure you take care of yourself by giving at least 30 minutes to 1 hour to your body every day. Include any Exercise of your choice; you enjoy and have fun doing so that you don't feel like it's a burden. When you work out, your body releases stress and happy hormones. So, make sure you include home workouts, yoga, pilates, weight training, walking, running, jogging, skipping, or any other workout of your choice for healthy and happy living.
