1. Use with moderation
WhatsApp is one of the favorite and most used apps by Brazilians. Every day, there are millions of interactions in chats and dozens of groups created for family, friends, college, and even to talk with colleagues and bosses at work. According to a survey carried out by the Regus group with 44,000 executives in several countries, WhatsApp is adopted by 95% of professionals, followed by Skype and Facebook Messenger. However, care must be taken when using the messaging tool during and outside working hours. For the CEO of Runrun.it - a platform for managing corporate projects - and productivity specialist Antonio Carlos Soares, despite streamlining the exchange of information about the company and its assignments for free, WhatsApp can interfere with the employee's rest time and even affect your productivity and focus in the office. "The excessive use of any non-professional platform in the workplace is harmful. It takes common sense and responsibility," says Soares. Therefore, with the help of the specialist, INFO has prepared a list of 8 valuable tips so that the application does not hinder productivity or harm the professional.
2. Silence the group
If you have a group with many interactions and notifications, put it in "silent" mode. To do this on iOS, drag the group name to the left side of the screen in the conversations list and tap More > Mute. It is possible to mute the conversation for 8 hours, a week, or a year. On Android, tap the options icon inside the chat (represented by three dots in the corner of the screen) and then select Mute. You will be able to view messages later and reply to them at relevant times. If you want to revert the option, do the same process and tap Disable Silence.
3 Take off view mode
In some cases, managers can charge their employees for a position using the option to check if the contact is online or the "Last Seen" feature as an argument. To prevent this from happening, remove the option to let your contacts know the last time you were online. On iOS, tap Settings > Account > Privacy > Last Seen and select None. On Android, go to Settings > Account > Privacy > Last seen and also disable the option.
4. Set specific times to read all messages
Instead of viewing all messages as they arrive, use a few short breaks during the day to reply to your contacts, such as at lunch, on the way out, or during a coffee break. "This way, the professional will remain informed about everything, but without being harmed," says Antonio Soares.
5. My boss called me on WhatsApp after hours. What should I do?
In this case, Antonio Soares advises the employee to talk to his manager to establish the schedules and priorities for his tasks. "In the case of an emergency or a process that awaits answers, it is possible to have a quick interaction for its resolution, but if the conversation is prolonged, it is possible to consider the possibility of answering later, during working hours, without disturbing your time of rest, "says the expert.
