1. Wear Sunglasses and Wide-brimmed Hat: Make a habit of wearing sunglasses this summer. Choose those sunglasses which offer UV protection and block 100% of both UVA and UVB rays to shield your eyes from harmful radiation. Also, wear a wide-brimmed hat with your sunglasses to protect your eyes even more. This will cut down on the UV rays that hit your eyes and skin around them even more.
2. Stay Hydrated: When it's hot outside, being dehydrated can make your eyes feel dry. To keep your eyes and body moist, drink a lot of water throughout the day.
3. Take Breaks from Screens: Always remember to give your eyes a break, whether you're working on a computer or looking through your phone. Every 20 minutes, look at something 20 feet away for at least 20 seconds. This is called the 20-20-20 rule.
4. Avoid Rubbing and Keep Your Eyes Clean: When you rub your eyes, especially with hands that haven't been washed, you can bring in germs and allergens that can cause diseases or allergies. Instead, you should use artificial tears to ease any pain. To ensure proper eye hygiene, wash your hands frequently, refrain from touching or rubbing your eyes, and clean your contact lenses or glasses as directed.
5. Eat a Balanced Diet: Foods high in omega-3 fatty acids, vitamins C and E, and zinc, along with other vitamins and nutrients, can help keep your eyes healthy. Leafy veggies, fish, nuts, and citrous fruits are all good things to eat.
